Commissioners Purchase Truck And Call Bonds

In a regular session the county court approved buying a new dump truck for Precinct 4 with Johnson Motor Co. of Cleburne the low bidder at 2417.77 and ordered 1000 in time warrants to finance the purchase. The court also ordered 3000 in road and bridge bonds, 1947 series, called for payment in May. Commissioner Gosdin was absent due to illness.

CSO to Hold Year End Meeting in School Auditorium

Mrs. W. B. Cowan, CSO president, urges members to attend the last meeting of the year in the school auditorium Monday night. The program features performances by the second and seventh grades and the high school. New officers will be elected during the business session.

Pentecostal Church Plans Week's Revival

A weeklong revival begins April 17 at United Pentecostal Church. Rev. Johnny Benson, the new pastor, will conduct services nightly at 7 30 p.m. He has recently moved here with his wife and young daughter. The public is invited to attend.

Rock Creek Church Sets Work Days

Rock Creek Baptist Church will hold work days on Saturdays to assist building efforts. Men will work each Saturday while women provide the noon meal. Interested church members are invited to help, with Mrs. Dayton Boren of Brady, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Boren of Belton and Joe among those mentioned.

Six W S G Members Attend Dist Meet In Granbury

Six members of the Wesleyan Service Guild of First Methodist Church attended a district meeting in Granbury on April 3. Reports from 13 churches were presented, a musical program was performed, and a reception honoring district officers followed. Members present included Mrs. Tom Voss, Mrs. Howard Sego, Mrs. J. L. Glaze, Mrs. Lee Currie, Mrs. Jerre Deason, and Miss Barbara Ballard.

Mrs. J. W. Leonard Buried in Glen Rose

Ida Perry McAdams Leonard, 66, died in a local hospital after six days there. She lived in Glen Rose since 1946 and was active in art circles. Survived by husband J. W. Leonard, one son Rex, six daughters, two sisters, one brother, and 14 grandchildren. Services were at 2 p.m. at Glen Rose Funeral Chapel with Rev. A. D. Wood and Rev. Tom Granger officiating. Burial at Squaw Creek Cemetery.

Cedar Post Yard Fire Wrecks Cedar Posts

A blaze at the J. R. Boren Cedar Post Yard on Highway 144 caused between 600 and 700 dollars in losses. Firefighters responded around 5 p.m. and contained the flames within two hours. Somerville County's new fire truck aided the efforts, per Fire Chief Lynn O’Neal.

White Church Sets Sunday Services

Services at White Church are scheduled for next Sunday morning with Sunday School at 10 and worship at 1. The pastor Rev H W Hanselman will preach. The public is cordially invited to attend.

City Calls Election For Paying Bonds

Glen Rose city council meets and orders a bond election for May 14 to issue 50000 in municipal bonds to pave and repair streets within the city. Councilman Ruby Lane initiates the motion and Councilman Lynn Cook seconds. Mayor Walter Ernst notes the bond issue can be retired without new levies and that only needed bonds will be issued if voters approve.

O Y Miller buried in Rising Star rites

Funeral services for O Y Miller age 78 were held at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Rising Star with Rev J L Glaze and others officiating. Miller died after a second heart attack and is survived by his wife, one son Dr George Y Miller of Houston, two daughters and other relatives. Burial followed in Rising Star Cemetery.
