Mrs Julia Ella Hill obituary recalls a life of service
Mrs Julia Ella Hill died at her Glen Rose home March 29 1955 at age 91 after a brief illness. She loved flowers and kept a well tended yard and home and remained active in reading and listening to news. A charter Eastern Star member and lifelong Baptist, she was beloved for kindness and patience and was laid to rest beside her husband at Squaw Creek Cemetery after funeral at First Baptist Church led by Rev Roy Clayton with Rev Joe English assisting. Her birth name was Julia Ella Alverson born March 20 1864 in Dido Wise County Texas.

Clifton High School Captures Second Tiger Relays Title
Clifton High School won the second annual Tiger Relays with 28 12 points led by Layne in the 100 yard dash and Whitmore in the 120 yard hurdles. Mansfield and Midway followed, with 32 teams competing and records set in multiple events. In Somervell County voters, Deputy Tax Collector Eugene Williams reports 1108 vehicle registrations through April 2 760 passenger cars and 67 commercial licenses. Glen Rose elected Dr. Roger E Marks mayor with 77 votes. Woody Brown kept his council seat with 77 votes as other candidates trailed.

Spanish War Vet L. L. Byrd Dies in Dallas Hospital
L L Byrd a Spanish War veteran and one of the last in Somervell County died at Dallas Veterans Hospital on April 2 1955 after ill health. Born May 7 187... in Alabama he served in the Philippines during the war. The Byrd family moved to Glen Rose about 1938 and have resided there since. Funeral services were held April 4 in Fort Worth at Laurel Land with Sparkman Brand Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are his widow four step children Curtis Howell Otis Howell Vivian Howell and Mrs Hallie Byrd Davis.
