Gladewater hosts an overflow crowd registering for the Fall Festival at Ambassador College grounds near Big Sandy. About 13 500 attendees are expected for this year’s event spanning the globe with 26 simultaneous festivals and 76 500 members overall.

Highway 135 projects delayed awaiting federal act funds
State Highway Engineer J. C. Dingwall says SH 135 work between Gladewater and Kilgore is delayed until the 1972 Federal Aid Highway Act is passed. Kilgore Chamber seeks four-laning to SH 20 and US 271, while parts near SH 42 to SH 31 await contracting funds and right of way buying.

Williams named director of White Oak Bank
Jerry Williams, former general manager of J. O. Williams Pontiac-Buick, is appointed director of White Oak State Bank. The bank opened June 5 and has surpassed one million dollars in deposits. Kilgore College freshman Jerry Roberts, an exchange student in Austria, told Kilgore Lions that Americans often undervalue freedoms until they study abroad. He spent weeks visiting Austrian Lions families and attended a Lions International camp.
