Elvis Ray Jowell 55 died Wednesday after not returning from work. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with burial in Rosedale Cemetery. Survived by wife Juanita, two sons Tim and Dewayne, daughter Amy, three grandchildren, four sisters and four brothers. Texaco pumper and WWII Army veteran. Under Malcolm Stone Funeral Home.

Mrs Barker Dies After Brief Illness
Mrs Mary Jeanne Barker 53 died Thursday in a local hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Malcolm Stone Chapel with Rev Hugh Mixon officiating. Graveside services are set for Monday at Maple Wood Cemetery in Harrison Ark. She resided on Rt 1 and was born December 25 1923 in Harrison. A housewife and Presbyterian, she is survived by husband Campbell B four sons Brook and Charles of San Antonio John of New Orleans Cory at home one daughter Jeanne Lemar Gladewater her mother Nina Walker of Harrison and four grandchildren.

Panel backs zoning change and ordinance amendments
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a zoning change for three 66 acre tracts east of U S Highway 271 N and recommended city council approval of amendments to Ordinance 1092. New uses include department store and professional office building. light commercial uses shift to heavy commercial and light industrial zones. The council earlier rejected the owners’ request on a split vote after a 75-signature petition. The commission also raised the change fee from 25 to 50 and noted council approval is needed. a next meeting is set for Oct 13. Condemnation of Mallock Addition Lots 4–8 was approved, while Lots 9–11 remained tabled pending notices.
