Pesticide Certification Meeting At Gladewater High
Paul Lynn Cook, vocational agriculture teacher, says the Gladewater High ag department will host a pesticide meeting with the Extension Service at 7 p.m. Monday in the ag building. The Oct 21 law requires certification to buy certain pesticides and insecticides, with attendees receiving a private applicator card after completing the course. For questions contact Cook, Carl W. September outdoor arts festival draws wide regional entries
The Broadway School grounds host the annual outdoor arts and crafts festival on September 24 and 25 with many booths reserved. The event, sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce women’s division, features oils, ceramics, macrame, tole, watercolors, dolls, stained glass and other crafts from artists across Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Gladewater Council Votes on Zoning and Airport Contracts
The Gladewater city council approved zoning changes including a denied Special Use Permit for a pet shop at 2508 Hendricks and an approved SF8 conversion at U.S. Highway 80 East. They authorized payments totaling about 137,000 for airport expansion Phase I work and park project engineering services, and tabled one location issue. The council also appointed Planning & Zoning Commission member and reappointed all five Electrical Board members. A closed executive session discussed the Warren City versus Gladewater extraterritorial jurisdiction dispute, with an authorized reply to the suit and steps to divide the jurisdiction.

City answers Warren suit and seeks apportionment under Texas law
Gladewater City Attorney filed an Answer in the 115th District Court to Warren Citys lawsuit against Gladewater and a Cross Action asking that overlapping extraterritorial jurisdiction be apportioned between Warren and Gladewater under Article 970a. The answer claims the suit is frivolous and asks for dismissal with costs and attorney fees. Warren is urged to strike the complaint. Also, Upshur County Judge Everett Deans attorney filed for summary judgment in a separate case relating to the Union Grove incorporation election held Aug 10 in which Union Grove residents voted 47 to 9 to incorporate.
