Rotarians begin their calendar campaign with wives assisting on the project. A noon luncheon features a discussion of the Halloween carnival planned by the Chamber of Commerce led by Jack Earp, who will outline the carnival plans.
East Texas rivals clash as the Bears and Gilmer meet in the 1975 opener at 8 p.m. Gladewater brings a deep 61-man roster and key players like David Payne, Louis Tennison, and Ricky Childress while Gilmer counters with dual qbs Gregg Fountain and Tim Davis and a potent air attack led by Joe Louvier. The game promises a hard fought battle with both teams aiming to start strong.
Vice principal Hugh Mixon announced Gladewater schools will reorganize seating at Bear stadium. General admission moves to the west end of the south side while the east end near the band hosts assigned seating. Fans urged to follow the new Friday night rule.
Gladewater Municipal Hospital Auxiliary organized at the Chamber of Commerce building with 83 charter members. Mrs. B. F. Risinger was elected president. other officers include Betty Allen, M A Pyeatt, Milton Bolgiano, C J Mauldin, C B McKenzie, and Roy Johnston. The group aims to restore obstetric services as doctors resume delivery duties.
The Worldwide Church of God plans its Feast of Tabernacles at Ambassador College Big Sandy from Sept 19 to 27. Garner Ted Armstrong will speak Sept 23 at 10 am, with his father visiting Sept 22. Officials expect more than 9,000 attendees from multiple states and extensive international participation.
Marcus P. Haynes, 91, retired oilman and local pioneer, died early Wednesday in a nursing home after months of illness. Funeral services set for 11 a.m. Friday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home chapel with burial in Memory Park Cemetery Longview. The Rev B F Risinger and Dr William McNatt will officiate. He served as a charter member of First Baptist Gladewater and a former school board member, born June 17, 1884 in Mississippi, moved to Gladewater in 1911, survived by daughter Mrs Willie Sutton and granddaughter Mrs Carolyn Linder. Funeral arrangements were pending Wednesday for Mackie Dean Parrott, 66.
Mrs. Willie Pearl Dawson died after a long illness and was buried in Old Minden Cemetery. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church in Minden with Dr. Carlos Davis and Rev. Larry Osborn officiating. Arrangements were by Lloyd Funeral Home of Gilmer. She was born December 9, 1889 in Horton Louisiana and survived by one son Clarence W. Dawson two sisters Rosa Moore and Berta Monzingo three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
