UF Nears 70 Percent of Goal in Gladewater Fund Drive
The Gladewater United Fund has reached almost 70 percent of its $15 000 goal with 10 761 61 pledged. Contributors include Greater New Hope Baptist Church Union Temple C M E Church Southwestern Electric Power Co Gladewater Middle School and several individuals and local groups.

Gladewater Christmas parade seeks more entries
The Gladewater Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Christmas parade and invites bands and floats to enter. Entry blanks are in the Gladewater Mirror or by calling 845-2626. The Chamber closes Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving but opens Monday. So far Kilgore College Rangerettes and Band, White Oak High School Band, Gladewater High School cheerleaders, and Gladewater ninth graders are listed as entrants.

White Oak to Convert Facility for New Senior High in 1974
At a Monday meeting the White Oak Board voted to repurpose a proposed middle school site as a new senior high school. Duane Scott and Associates will draw a vocational building addition for homemaking and shop, to be adjacent to the new high school. Funding comes from a $1.5 million 1972 bond, replacing planned gym renovations, with occupancy target fall 1974. Renovations at Roughneck Stadium are about 20 percent complete, funded by the 1972 bond.

The Gregg County commissioners court rejected a petition from Citizens for a Better Gladewater seeking an off premise alcohol sale election after County Clerk B M Birdsong did not certify enough signatures. Of 640 names, 103 were invalid due to address or signature issues, leaving 456 Gregg County names certified. Upshur names were not certified over residence disputes. The group plans further action after Thanksgiving holidays.
