All Rotarians and their Rotary Anns are reminded of the club’s annual night meeting Thursday May 6 at Brookhaven Lodge near Hawkins. Charles Wilson heads the Fellowship committee and Gary Kizer with Rusty Daniel arrange a special program. fish dinner begins at 7 30 p.m.
Care Inn Nursing Home at 300 North Money Street ends participation in Title XVIII Medicare. The agreement with the Secretary of HEW was terminated April 1, with no Medicare payments after that date. Administrator Joe Pitman cites extensive red tape and inability to continue nursing care for eligible patients in Gladewater.
George Lewis of the Small Business Administration offers interviews in Tyler’s County Courthouse Room 304 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for small business info and Economic Opportunity loans under Title IV. The Union Grove Kindergarten Round-Up set for Tuesday May 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. requires health records and birth certificates, with lunch money or a sack lunch. In Dallas, Joe Shepherd is named manager of Lone Star Steel Market Development, with Ralph Haroldson transferred to Dallas as market development engineer to support sales and introduce new products and applications.
Dolph Briscoe, Uvalde banker-rancher and gubernatorial hopeful, spoke at a Liberty City community event hosted by W. A. Clements and Gregg County Commissioner Hugh Camp. He urged old fashioned honesty, urged scrutinizing welfare costs, and urged a reexamination of education and welfare programs while praising Texas youths and promising improved opportunities if Texans work together.
The Gladewater High School choirs present their final 1960s style concert Tuesday night at 8 in the high school auditorium. The Boys Chorus Girls Chorus and Mixed Choir perform selections planned for the Kilgore College I UIL Festival next Thursday. A reception by Choral Parents follows in the homemaking department with all parents invited and admission free.
Freda Gray was named Miss Congeniality and Miss Gladewater 1971 at Sabine High School's pageant in Gladewater. Gloria Gail Warlick won Miss Gladewater with Mary Alice Lindsey and Jean Marie Wilkins as runners-up. crowd respected community attendance of about 500.
Gladewater Chamber of Commerce promotes Round-Up Rodeo events from June 9 to 12 with a beard growing contest offering 25 dollar prizes in longest neatest and most creative categories. Entry by May 8 via David Holcombe, shaving permits mandatory for non entrants, proceeds fund entrants. Also scheduled are Western Dress Week June 7 to 12 and pageant by Miss Gladewater Inc with judges from Texas beauty circles.
Anita Lee Arrington is valedictorian with a 97.55 average and Russell Mullins is salutatorian at Gladewater High School. Thomas Moughon and 120 seniors comprise the Class of 1971, with 110 graduates listed as honor students and May 28 graduation set in the GHS auditorium.
