Negotiations Pause Between CWA and G T Southwest

The Communications Workers of America and General Telephone Company of the Southwest announced a recess in contract talks on Friday. Sessions resume Monday June 21 unless a meeting is called earlier as they review proposals to revise the three year contract expiring June 27. The pause allows representatives to attend prior commitments.

Grand opening marks Huntsville Farmers Market festivities

Officials from the city county and Huntsville Walker County Chamber attended the annual Farmers Market opening at Huntsville High School bus barn. A vegetable show crowned a grand champion from five pound exhibits. the winning vegetables were auctioned. Last season the market earned 17000 for local truck gardeners.

Lions Install New Officers

New officers were installed at the Lions Club noon meeting on Wednesday with Oran T. Donaldson serving as installing officer. Elevations include W. T. Wallace as president and Clyde C. Crawford named secretary-treasurer. New directors are W. L. Martin Jr. D. E. Haight Bill R. Johnston and Donald Dale Barton. Raymond L. Addington becomes crippled children's camp chairman and George W. Thomas program chairman.

Funeral Services Held Saturday For W. J. Watkins

Vernon J. Watkins 72 died Friday after a lengthy illness. Funeral at Union Grove Baptist Church with burial at West Mountain Cemetery. Survived by daughter Mrs. Malone Stevens, three brothers, two sisters, and three grandchildren. Also noted: city building boom with 344 764 in permits Jan-May, up from 186 750 last year.
