Postmaster Grafts Pecans on Hickory Trees as Hobby
Gladewater postmaster J H Parrish grafts four pecan varieties onto 400 hickory trees on 100 acres southwest of Gladewater. He uses bark grafts, reports 85 to 90 percent success this year, and shows others how to graft. He notes grafting runs April to mid May and stores scions at 40 degrees. Additional grafts include walnuts and a nectarine on plum, with ongoing experiments on Choctaw Mohawk Perry Cox and Barton varieties.
