Meeting Set On Union Grove Incorporation Proposal
A Union Grove meeting for residents is set for Saturday July 23 at 7 p.m. in the Union Grove school cafeteria to discuss incorporation. James Skinner announced legal counsel has been retained to study the matter. The report notes the Gladewater council set July 3 for a public hearing on annexation of a 109.1 acre tract north of the city, east of U S Highway 271, not including Union Grove.

Crash near Clarksville City Kills Gladewater Man and Son
A former Gladewater man Jesse C. Dockery and his nine year old son died when his car collided with a second vehicle at the Old Highway 80 east and Pelphrey Drive intersection near Clarksville City. A 14 year old son Steven Dockery and the other driver Roy Lee Pamplin were injured and treated in Tyler. Funeral services for Mrs Eula Sinclair were held in Mineola.

Texas city sales tax rebates rise 20 percent in 1977
Comptroller Bob Bullock reported Friday that July rebates totaling 23.6 million were mailed to 868 Texas cities for the one percent city tax. Seven month rebates reached 190.7 million, up from 158.6 million last year, signaling strong Texas economy and higher tax collections than any other state. Major cities Houston Dallas San Antonio receive 4.7 million 3.2 million and 1.3 million respectively. Myrle Young dies at 61 with rites Thursday
Mrs Myrle Elizabeth Young 61 died Tuesday in a local hospital after a long illness. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 pm in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev Bob Brazier and Rev B F Risinger officiating. Interment in Memorial Park. She lived in Gladewater since 1932, was born in Duncan Oklahoma, worked at Vogue Dress Shop, compiled a Bicentennial quilt, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No 831 and Assembly of God Church. She is survived by two sisters Frankie Graham and Dora Lee, one sister in law Lonnie Blalock, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers listed and Easter Star and Masonic Lodge Honorary pallbearers.

Bowie Judge Rennie Allred Jr. Dies After Brief Illness
Bowie born judge Rennie Allred Jr. 76 longtime state legal figure died after a short illness. He served as Montague County attorney in the 1920s and from 1941 to 1954 as counsel for state district courts in Austin and for the National Association of Independent Insurers. Funeral services were held in Bowie with interment at Elmwood Cemetery. He was uncle to Rep. Dave Allred and connected to Gov. Allred and Virginia Allred Stacey among relatives.
