Former Gladeite Drowns Friday in Sabine River
Jimmy Frank Hanson 22, formerly of Gladewater, drowned about 7:30 a.m. while fishing at the Sabine River crossing on State Highway 155 north of Tyler. He was pulled from the river after reportedly striking his head on an underwater object. two Hawkins men and one Big Sandy man helped. Burial services were held in Overton. Hanson, a native of Big Spring, had moved to Overton in 1966 and worked as a roustabout for Miller & Co. Oil Well Service. Survivors include his wife Nita Hanson, parents, a sister, and maternal grandparents.

Fireworks display ends in scattered flames at Gladewater airport
Gladewater Jaycees saw a $400 fireworks show go wrong when a mortar shell failed midair and sparked across dry grass at the airport during the annual display. Police officer Gerald Mears suffered minor arm burns and singed hair as explosions spread fires to nearby display boxes.

Three Arraigned For Ring Theft In Longview
Three Longview men Robert Lee Henderson 22 Jimmy Ray Jefferson 19 and Tommy Lee Cooksey 25 were arraigned on theft over 50 charges after the Tuesday robbery at Hightower Credit Jewelers. Bond set at 5000 each. Police recovered the stolen wedding bands from Jefferson and Henderson. Jefferson used alias Charles Everett Jefferson. Henderson held in store until police arrival. Jefferson nabbed on Glade Water streets Tuesday night. Cooksey arrested Wednesday on felony warrant.
