Blood Drive for Child Undergoes Heart Surgery in Dallas

Work on Glade Creek bridge progresses on schedule

Robert Davis, resident engineer for the Gregg County State Dept. of Highways and Public Transportation, reports that 42 stress steel concrete pilings on the Gay Ave bridge over Glade Creek have been driven. WR Boyd and Company of Center will move equipment to finish the concrete. completion is estimated for March 15.

City Elections Moved to Saturday April 3

City council changed the election date to Saturday April 3 to align with new state law. School board elections will also be held then with absentee voting March 15 through 30 and candidate filing due by March 3. Incumbents include Mayor C G Johnston and councilmen Charles Hopson and Dr Tom Armstrong.

Union Grove approves new band uniforms for UG Band

Union Grove school board authorized purchase of 30 new band uniforms funded by school budget and Boosters Club fundraising. Estimated cost 160 dollars per uniform with delivery planned for fall. The motion passed unanimously as part of a broader meeting including bus sale approval, lunch policy updates, and a salary raise for maintenance man Gleason Heard.

Elna F Landrum Rites Held for 73 in Gladewater

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday for Elna F Landrum 73 of 2078 Center Street Gladewater a Metal One retiree and First Baptist member who died Monday evening in a local hospital. Burial was at Gladewater Memorial Park. Survivors include his widow Lea two daughters a pair of sisters and two grandchildren. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were church members and local men.
