Burglary gang nabbed in Whites Auto Store sting
Gladewater police arrested four would-be burglars in a New Year stake-out at Whites Auto Store on Main Street. One caught in the act, another nearby, two hidden in nearby apartments. A driver fled but was captured. Officers recovered weapons and set bonds at 7500 dollars each. The arrests linked to three house burglaries and a commercial break-in.

City police with search and arrest warrants arrested Louise Daniels 34 of 612 S White Street and Roger Crump 27 of Gilmer after a Jan 5 raid uncovered five bags of marijuana. A I Wilcoxen Dies at 76 in Gladewater
Arthur John Wilcoxen 76 of Martin Street died Friday night after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel. Graveside rites set for Sunday in Wharton. Survived by widow Ivy two sons Donald and Norman a daughter Ruth Nell two brothers a sister and five grandchildren.

Driving course to be offered in Gladewater
The City of Gladewater will sponsor two eight hour National Safety Council Defensive Driving Courses. Instructor Marshall J Smith will lead the city employees course January 7 8 9 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the city courtroom. The public course runs January 13 14 15 and 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Limited to 60 registrants the course costs 2 dollars for workbook materials with a ten percent auto insurance discount for three years after completion.
