Veteran Marine NCO Tallent earns Silver Star for Vietnam service

Marine Gunner Gunnery Sergeant Roy A. Tallent, son of Mrs Edna Tallent, is on leave before reporting to Camp Pendleton for instructor duty. With 25 years in Navy and Marine service and three wars, Tallent earned the Silver Star and Bronze Star in Vietnam, plus two Purple Hearts and the Cross of Gallantry. He fought in Korea and Vietnam and later spoke on Khe Sanh and related battles with a professional, detached air. He is described as strictly Semper Fidelis, a true Marine’s Marine.

Jaycees to Sponsor Miss Gladewater Pageant

Gladewater Jaycees President Don Audas said the local chapter will sponsor the Miss Gladewater pageant for the 10th year. The event is set for June with time and place to be announced, and the winner may advance to Miss Texas and possibly Miss America. A planning committee is forming and community attendance is urged.

General Telephone Names Hale Plant Foreman

Hale named plant foreman at Gladewater by W F Morris Jr division manager of General Telephone Company of the Southwest. Hale began as a plant trainee in 1965 in San Angelo and advanced to foreman in Sulphur Springs by 1966. He is a Navy veteran, Brownwood High School graduate, 1936, and Howard Payne College alumnus, 1965. He will move to Gladewater soon.

Workshop Set For Bus Drivers

An area workshop for school bus drivers will be held Friday in Kilgore High School auditorium by Region VII Education Service Center and Kilgore Public Schools with the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the opening session at 9.
