Texas residents may buy 1971 license plates for cars trailers and motorcycles by April 1. Purchases are at Wanda DeLay’s office in Gladewater and Lee Grocery on Highway 80 Upshur County. Bring computer card or last year’s registration and vehicle titles. Cash or personal checks accepted. late purchases incur a penalty.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Beard of 1307 Rodeo Road plan a Golden Wedding Anniversary open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Daughters Beth Graham, Betty Lou Powell, and Pat Shepperd host. The Beards, long involved in antiques and Indian relics, are Church of Christ members with several grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Big Sandy Sand Company owned by G C Wright and son J T operates a 90 acre plant two miles north of Big Sandy in Upshur County. The firm produces about 200 tons daily of foundry sand and a white sand for golf courses and masonry. The $500000 plant employs six men and began in 1948 on a barge on Big Sandy Creek.
