East Texan Dies In Viet Action Rites Pending

PFC Kenneth Bruce Meador 18 of Cayuga was killed in action in South Vietnam on December 21. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Meador, and other relatives mourn his loss as funeral plans are set by Hassell and Foster Funeral Home with time pending the return of his body. Meador attended Cayuga schools and belonged to Judson Baptist Church. He would have turned 19 four days after his death.

Tyler oil operator Edward Herschbach 62 will be buried at Marvin Methodist Church with Dr. Wayne McCleskey and the Rev. Bill Bray officiating. He died Friday at his Tyler home after a long illness. He had lived in Tyler 30 years.

Perot Fails To Get North Viet Nam Cooperation

Dallas billionaire Ross Perot failed to obtain permission to land two planes loaded with gifts for American prisoners in North Vietnam. He planned to deliver medical supplies, clothing and mail to Moscow and inspect POW camps in South Vietnam, aiming to show humanitarian aid beyond Americans. Perot met Hanoi’s representative for 1 hour 35 minutes before newsmen. Hanoi refused to allow the parcels or a direct trip to Hanoi. He noted Hanoi’s refusal to provide a full list of American prisoners and said the effort would continue with an alternative plan if needed. Perot, 39, chartered jets at a cost of about 200000 dollars and arrived in Laos from Bangkok with 400000 dollars worth of parcels. a second plane was awaiting in Los Angeles. He is a Texan entrepreneur, Naval Academy graduate, founder of Electronics Data Systems.
