City's Sales Tax Share Shows Jump

Gladewater's one per cent city sales tax rose in the third quarter ending Sept 30. The city collected 14276.93, up 1136.81 from the previous quarter's 13140.12. Total receipts since July 1968 reach 55171.12.

Gladewater Firemen name 1970 officers and top volunteer

Gladewater volunteer firemen installed their 1970 officers at Don's Restaurant and honored Fireman of the Year Mike Cannon. Chief Harold Potts led the event with George Thomas presenting the award. The Danny Bennett award was also given as part of the season’s observance.

Middle School Choirs Present Holiday Concert

In Lebanon Kentucky, Middle School choirs performed a holiday program directed by Mrs Wanda Marlowe. A Nativity scene prompted four year old Sammy Osbourne to identify Mary Joseph and Baby Jesus and correctly label the Magi as the three Wise Guys.

Christmas Choir Concert Weave Holiday Pleasures

A school choir program features sixth grade rehearsals as Laura Hart and Debbie Kar nes sing The Bell Song with Jay Rowe on resonator bell. The seventh and eighth graders perform Jingle Bells Christ mas Hymn O Come Emanuel Go Tell It on the Mountain and more with soloists Debra Childs Cecelia Thomas Dennis Bell and others. The finale unites all choirs and audience in We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

GHS Places Five On All-Region Band

GHS seniors Jeff Gwinn David Mercy Cindy Merritt Paula Jaggers and Roger Cary were named to the Region IV north zone TMEA all region band at Mt Pleasant High School on Dec 6. Meccy and other region tryouts include White Oak and Lufkin with potential all state selection. A later clinic and concert are set for Jan 3 at Texas High School Texarkana under Ralph Hale.

Gladewater Bears and Pittsburg Pirates, co-champions of the 1969 District 14-AA, led the all-district selections after the district meeting. Hallsville, West Rusk and Jefferson also placed multiple players on offense, defense, and honorable mention rosters.
