Park grant sought as council sets heavy agenda

Gladewater City Council will hold a public hearing on zoning for lots 12 and 13, Block 5, Waddell Addition, review hospital authority plans for new facilities, and consider a grant application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The meeting also covers wage increases, park improvements, and ongoing grant requests.

New Gold Permits Mailed to Texas Retailers

Comptroller Bob Bullock said Texas retailers will receive new gold colored sales and use tax permits, replacing the old green ones. About 295,525 permits go to current holders, with mailing set for December 10 and delays possible due to holiday mail. Retailers must display permits, verify information, and contact field offices if corrections are needed. Delinquent businesses will not receive new permits until they settle debts.

Gladewater Band Boosters Host Christmas Dance

The Gladewater High School Band Boosters sponsor a Christmas dance Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight at the American Legion Hut. Electro Sound provides music and all teenagers are invited to attend. Admission is 1.50 dollars per person.

Value of Life Project draws interest in ET

The Value of Life Project organized by the Texas Conference of Churches drew East Texans to a Dallas session on December 14. Participants from Gladewater joined Longview representatives to expand the project locally, with planning set for January to spread its materials. The Dallas Hilton hosted three days of general sessions led by medical legal and religious experts including Dr. W Page Keeton and Dr. John B Moore.

Rites Held for Mrs. Cecelia Tuttle. East Texas Catholic Leader

Funeral rites for Cecelia Christina O’Byrne Tuttle known as Aunt Tina were held Tuesday after death Sunday in a local hospital. She lived at O’Byrne Mill and supported social work, church activities, and genealogy work on The O’Byrne Mill. Survivors include her husband Jesse Nobie Tuttle, three sons, three daughters, two sisters, 24 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mason Phillips Paul Painter Jerry Smith Melvin Jones Joe Tuttle and Horace Tuttle.

Paul's Grill Opens in Gladewater with 24 Hour Service

Paul and Mrs Lawson open Paul's Grill on East Broadway next to Motel Glade in a new brick and glass building. The 24 hour cafe, run by Mr and Mrs Lawson, creates 16 jobs and offers breakfast around the clock and noon plate lunches. A catering service is planned. The cafe previously operated in Longview.
