Gladewater Christmas Parade Opens Holiday Season

Gladewater readies for its annual Christmas parade Monday with decorations and festive displays. Santa Claus will arrive from the North Pole ahead of the start at 4:30 p.m., as volunteers and civic groups prepare 42 parade units along the planned route.

Kilgore Hearing to consider waste order amendments

Texas Water Quality Board will hold a Kilgore public hearing Tuesday to review two amendments to waste control orders. Examining an amendment for a proposed improved municipal sewage plant two miles southwest of Longview and an identical proposal southeast of Commerce.

The Last Boom Bequest to Gladewater Library

The Gladewater Public Library receives two copies of The Last Boom in memory of John Ben Shepperd Jr. One copy joins the Memorial Texana Collection, the other goes to general circulation. The book, by Michel Halboury and James Clark, recounts the East Texas oil field from discovery to independents versus majors and its wartime impact.

Meeting to Plan Christmas Baskets Organized

A planning meeting for all groups and churches distributing Christmas baskets to needy families is scheduled for Friday December 8 at 10 a.m. in the Green Room of the Community Building. Attendees are asked to bring lists of needy families. Mrs. Don Smith, the school nurse, leads the effort.
