No swine flu clinic in Gladewater this week

Barbara Reeves assistant director of nursing at Gladewater Municipal Hospital said there will be no local swine flu clinic. Residents must seek vaccines from private doctors or county health offices in Longview as nurses lack malpractice coverage to administer shots. Public Health Region 7 staff and volunteers have administered vaccines in other cities.

Freshmen congressmen to organize in Washington

Hawkins to Hold Swine Flu Clinic in Hawkins

Public Health Region 7 announced a swine influenza clinic at the new Hawkins High School on Monday December 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. The bivalent vaccine is for ages 65 and over and chronically ill 6 months to 64 with physician note. Monovalent vaccine for healthy 3 to 64. Under 18 must be accompanied.

Pine Tree school seeks 4.6 million bonds for expansion

Pine Tree School plans a December 7 election to approve 4.6 million dollars in bonds for construction and expansion. Proposals include a new elementary school for grades 2 and 3 with cafetorium and stage for 800 students, refurbishing middle school facilities, added seating and a press box at the football stadium, and new teaching stations at the high school. Supt. Matt N. Hitt says the district is growing and a tax increase is not needed if growth continues. The Texas Arts Commission outlines eight goals to expand arts access and support statewide programs through enhanced technical assistance and cooperation.

Gladewater Christmas Parade Plans and Route

Gladewater prepares for its annual parade at 4 30 p m Thursday with any volunteers lining up at Broadway and Pacific at 4 p m. Pep squad candy distribution by the Chamber of Commerce and prizes for floats and bicycles add holiday cheer. Santa rides a big red fire truck as the procession follows a set route through downtown toward the railroad tracks.

Matthews rites Tuesday in Gladewater for Mrs. Josephine Matthews

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Gladewater for 87 year old Mrs. Josephine Matthews who died Sunday after a lengthy illness in a local hospital. Rev. B F Risinger officiated with interment in Friendship Cemetery. Surviving are her husband Dudley R Matthews six sons one daughter two sisters three brothers sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Pallbearers included Bob Supert Harold Jordan John Adams Jr Jess L Collier Jr Fred Matthews and Royce Matthews Jr.

College Blood Drive Seeks Donors for Shrine Hospital

Gilmer Depot Sold For Relocation After Declining Use

The Cotton Belt Railway depot was given to Gilmer to move it from its original site. The Bluebonnet Club tried to restore it for a museum but interest waned. Gilmer accepted a bid of 4500 from a Dallas man for the building to be moved to a new location.
