Honey Toys fund aids Naomi Shott cancer patient

Employees opened a fund at First State Bank with Billie Whittle in charge to assist Naomi Shott, a former worker undergoing cancer treatment. Community members are encouraged to contribute to the account as the campaign begins. Local notices also report various community happenings in Gregg County.

Wallace campaign makes Etex tour

Alabama Governor George Wallace stops in Longview Texas and Tyler then Dallas for a series of rallies. He draws crowds of 600 at Gregg County Airport 5000 to 6000 at Pounds Field and about 5000 at the Adolphus Hotel. Wallace targets welfare, busing foreign aid and six liberal senators while urging law and order and a halt to foreign aid except in national interest. He criticizes the press and Nixon over busing and the Vietnam War stance.

Former All American Krisher to speak at GHS honor banquet

Gladewater High School announces former Oklahoma All American tackle Bill Krisher of Dallas as keynote for the all sport banquet in the GHS cafeteria on Thursday April 20 at 7 p.m. Krisher, 33, is Southwest Regional Director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has rich college and pro football credentials with OU, the NFL and AFL. He and his wife Lana reside in Richardson. The article also lists GHS 1971-72 honor graduates and their achievements with Miss Mary Jane Wiley as valedictorian and Miss Robbie McDonald as salutatorian among others.

Mrs Harkness dies at 79 in local hospital

Prudy Mae Harkness 79 resident of 708 W Clair died Thursday morning in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p m at Greenway Baptist Church with Rev J W Best officiating. Interment in Memorial Park. Survivors include two sons W K R Harkness Angleton and J T Harkness Arlington two daughters Mrs E D Taylor Rockport and Mrs Manett Hayes Harpwood Calif one brother Claude H Teague Quitman two sisters Mrs Tinie Gallepy Houston and Mrs Florence Higginbotham Burnett one niece Mrs Thelma Tarpley city four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
