George Thomas leads city council balloting with 381 votes as United Gas representative and newcomer. Incumbents A. E. Shipp James Walker Melvin Jenkins J. B. Poston returned to council. School board sees Walter Henry re-elected by write‑in 148 votes and Jack Earp to fill vacancy with 356 votes. John Shipp tops school board at 424.

Bain Leake Jr. flagpole dedication honors fallen Marine

A large crowd gathered at Fi United Presbyterian Church as U. S. Senator John Tower spoke at the Bain Leake Jr. memorial flagpole ceremony. Dr. Bain Leake and family attended with Rev. Conrad W. Winborn Jr. presiding. The event proclaimed Bain Leake Jr. Day by Mayor Jim Holcomb with music by Gladewater High School.

Sixteen Gladewater High School scholars were honored at the National Honor Society banquet held in the school cafeteria. Round-Up Rodeo Association Plans 1971 Gladewater Event

The Round-Up Rodeo Association board met Tuesday with seventeen of twenty directors present to announce RCA approval for top cowboys, a 5250 purse, and return of Bobby and Gene Clark as standout rodeo clowns. Chuck Parkison will reprise announcing duties as Bill Minick stock provides top competition. Easter holiday observed for Gladewater students from Thursday to Monday with classes resuming April 13.
