Adams County SPCA directors approve a contract with Gettysburg Construction Co for 133 409 to build an animal shelter on a 10 acre Straban Two site. The project trims interior work, omits painting, and delays some features while relying on volunteers and future fundraising to cover remaining costs.

Magaziner to Speak at HGAC Dinner in Gettysburg

Historic Gettysburg Adams County hosts a 6 30 PM dinner at the Gettysburg Sheraton Inn inviting borough councilmen township supervisors and planning commissions from Adams County's 34 municipalities. Sue Township Permit Fight for Two Car Garage

A Chambersburg couple, Kermit and Inna Meals, sue Franklin Township supervisors Gene Williams Arthur Hossman Timothy Kane and building officer Clyde Topper in Adams County Court. They seek a building permit for a two car garage on Rt 30 claiming a 35 foot road setback is met by a 1974 ordinance, and ask the court to compel Topper to issue the permit and stop the hold on the project. The township says the garage violates the 1973 setback rule and could invite commercial facilities along the highway.

Adams Hanover Sheltered Workshop Auction Planned Friday

The Adams Hanover Area Sheltered Workshop will hold its second fund raising auction on Friday November 3 at 6 pm at the Gettysburg Workshop under volunteer supervision. Businesses may contribute services or items to be auctioned. Donated articles may be delivered to the Gettysburg or Hanover workshop by October 30.

Seven Properties in Charnita Auctioned for Tax Claims

Seven properties in the Charnita area were auctioned Monday for 2174.46 dollars as Adams County tax claims sales reach their fifth annual run. The money raised to cover delinquent real estate taxes from 1976 1977 and 1979 totals 29249.34 dollars. Nine additional Charnita properties remain to be sold October 16 at 10 am in the law library of the courthouse. The county tax claims office has raised about 240000 dollars by auctioning 304 properties in the past five years.

Heart Marathon Runners Stop in Gettysburg Overnight

About 75 runners in the first annual American Heart Association 225 mile Pennsylvania Marathon paused in Gettysburg Tuesday night to sleep, resume toward Pittsburgh at 9 AM. Local residents Robert Monahan Jr and Becky Lovett carried torches to Mayor Charles Lightner. The event raised funds for heart research with speeches by local officials and hospital figures, though organizer David Lovett was ill and could not run. The group planned a continuous 229 mile effort with community support and ceremonies in Lincoln Square.

Arentz Pleads Guilty in Gettysburg Attempt Case

Mark Arentz, 22, Gettysburg, pleaded guilty in Adams County to solicitation to commit murder for asking Paul Shoemaker to kill Michael Keiser, 19, with his family present.
