Park to display Lincoln Gettysburg Address in cyclorama area

Gettysburg National Military Park officials unveiled a scaled model for a new exhibition space to house a manuscript copy of Lincoln the Gettysburg Address. Superintendent John Earnst described a climate controlled glass cylinder display under the cyclorama with restricted lighting and surveillance. Eleven to twelve visitors may view at once. admission will be free.

Maynard To Face Trial For Murder In Adams County

Maynard Allen Omry Maynard, 30, of Fayetteville R2, is scheduled to be tried October 2 on charges of murder and voluntary and involuntary manslaughter in Linda Marie Glover's death near Chambersburg. The trial is part of a three week October Term with 19 criminal cases before Judge Oscar F. Spicer. Maynard recently deemed competent after psychiatric testing, was jailed after his May 30 arrest following Glover's body discovery. Glover died by strangulation.

Adams County Commissioners Mull Need for Eight Operators

Adams County commissioners debated emergency center staffing as civil defense director James Fox sought four of eight additional operators. He cited 63 000 yearly calls and a two-operator on duty standard, with current weekend night staffing. Several commissioners questioned necessity before approving hiring. Oil Tanker And Car In Accident Near Arendtsville

A car and an oil tanker collided on Rt. 12 three miles north of Arendtsville Thursday at 5 35 p m State Police at Gettysburg reported Donald C Pecher Biglerville driving a 1968 Dodge Charger south in Rt 91 crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 1978 Kenworth tank rack operated by William Keril Hampstead Md No injuries were reported and no damage estimate was provided

Flower Show At Gettysburg Garden Club Honors Local Exhibitors

The Gettysburg Garden Club hosted its Flower Show The Art of Living at Green Acres Adams County Home with top honors to Mrs. Robert Reynolds Herbert Raab and Mrs. Lester Van Arsdale. Second Temporary Treatment Plant Questioned by Official

Dr Donald Heiges retired president of Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary was elected to the Adams County Public Library board to fill the unexpired term of J Clarke Feiser. The meeting covered upcoming conferences and district meetings, United Way volunteer needs, summer programs wrap up, and a new charge-system to begin Oct 15. Daker Arrested In Burglary and Assault Case

A 21 year old Gettysburg man, John Bernard Daker, was arrested Thursday on burglary, criminal trespassing and simple assault charges linked to a July 25 incident. He was arraigned, placed in county prison in lieu of 5000 bail, and accused of breaking into an apartment at 148 Chambersburg St and attempting to assault Judith Ann Mazzeo. Police arrested him on a warrant at 11 05 a.m.

Ten Die In Floods In Arkansas Area

In Little Rock and surrounding areas heavy rains caused at least 15 million dollars in damages and left ten people dead including seven children. Weather forecasters said conditions were improving though surveys could raise the damage total. Municipal facilities suffered 33.8 million in damage with private property 725 million and 400 to 500 homes damaged. National Insurance Institute estimated vehicle and contractor equipment losses at about 5 million.

Blackbirds In York Not Adams Corrected By Expert

Penn State wildlife professor John L. George clarifies that a Gettysburg Times report misidentified Adams County as the largest blackbird roost. He says Codorus State Park in York County hosts a two to four million blackbird colony, though precise counts remain unverified.

Fahnestock Building Seen Fit for Varied Use in Gettysburg
