Bermudian School Board declines EMR class takeover from LIU

The Bermudian Springs School Board votes unanimously to not assume educable mentally retarded EMR classes now run by the Lincoln Intermediate Unit. Committee chair Melvin Worley cites LIU’s effectiveness. board also approves a graphic arts policy, bids on phototypesetting equipment, and funding moves for the cafeteria and transportation for the 1978-79 year.

Business Industry and Education Day Slated September 27

The eighteenth annual BIE Day will be held Wednesday September 27 with 46 industries and sponsors hosting 261 teachers from Conewago Valley Littlestown and Upper Adams School Districts. Teachers tour plants from 9 to noon then join a 1 pm luncheon at the Sheraton Inn. James Getty will present Mr Lincoln Returns to Gettysburg. The chamber seeks nominees for the 1978 Outstanding Citizen Award with the recipient announced October 4.

Field Visitation Up 21 Percent In Aug

Visitor travel to Gettysburg National Military Park in August totaled 261,207, a 21 percent rise from August 1977. Year to date 1,165,827 visitors versus 1,289,647 in 1977. The Visitor Center hosted 102,113 and the Cyclorama Center 73,050 visitors.

Perc Tests Required In Cumberland

Cumberland Township supervisors approved a motion to require percolation tests on all subdivisions by ordinance. The measure addresses sewage problems and restricts building on large parcels without testing. Also approved were Phase II road acceptances for Twin Lakes and a revised Act 337 to include 79 townhouse lots and 42 apartments on 21 acres for The Meadows on Ri. 34, plus a two lot subdivision for Paul Plank and Gerald Miller joining the planning commission. Expenditures listed include general fund and police pension fund totals.

Biglerville Water Co. sale offer rejected by Keystone

Biglerville Borough Council heard from the Municipal Authority that Keystone Water Co. rejected the $125,000 offer plus well costs to purchase the water system. Keystone invited a conference to discuss a possible sale. The council authorized the authority to set a conference date.

Local Man To Run Entire Route Of Pa Heart Assoc Marathon

David Lovett of Adams County plans a five day run for the American Heart Association carrying the Heart and Torch across Pennsylvania. He will start at the State Capitol Steps in Harrisburg on Tuesday Sept. 19 and finish Saturday in Pittsburgh. Lovett, native of Gettysburg, has a sports background and jogs ten miles daily. he recently worked as head basketball coach at Francis Scott Key High School and now is with the Gettysburg National Park Service.

Maynard Ordered To Stand Trial In Glover Death Case

Allen O Maynard of Fayetteville stands trial on murder and manslaughter charges in the death of Linda Marie Glover. Judge Oscar F Spicer ruled he is competent for trial after a psychiatric report. Maynard was arrested May 30 and jailed. the body was found southwest of Skinner's restaurant.

County Cancer Plan Outlined At Adams Society Meeting

State Representative Kenneth J. Cole of Gettysburg outlined the Pennsylvania Cancer Plan during the Adams County Cancer Society meeting at Warner Hospital. He cited funding limitations delaying implementation and described the plan to mobilize medical and lay leaders to expand outreach, detection, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and patient care across institutions and facilities.

The Fashion Council in downtown Gettysburg staged a fall fashions show at Farnsworth House with informal modeling featuring Fail budget outfits. County Music Educators Map Two Festivals This Fall

Adams County Music Educators outlined two fall music festivals at the annual dessert meeting at Lamp Post Restaurant. Plans include Junior High Festival at Biglerville High School on November 7, 1978, and High School Festival on March 2 and 3, 1979. Attendee remarks covered attendance policy, host school selection for elementary events, and a scholarship fund.

Friends Of Library To Present Pinafore Benefit

The Friends of the Library present Gilbert and Sullivan's Pinafore as a library benefit at Geburg Senior High cafetorium on January 12 13 and 14 to celebrate the operetta's history and raise funds for the Adams County Public Library.
