Prosperi guides Carter Sadat and Begin at Gettysburg battlefield

President Jimmy Carter returned to Gettysburg with guide Bob Prosperi, a National Park Ranger recalled from furlough to explain the battle to Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin. Prosperi noted Carter was more knowledgeable, highlighted troop movements, and described the leaders’ attentiveness during the Third Day actions.

Mount Fair Sets A Record in Attendance

The 56th Great South Mountain Fair ended with record attendance and income. Earl F. Noel said weeklong attendance reached 27.4 percent, and exhibits numbered about 3 500, up 25 percent from last year. Gate income rose about 50 percent. last year gross was around 16 000. A fuse outage darkened 25 percent of grounds for about half an hour Saturday. weather was perfect otherwise.

Gettysburg Tour Unites Carter Begin and Sadat at Battlefield

President Carter hosts Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat on a Gettysburg visit arranged after Begin's Civil War interest. The leaders tour the battlefield with aides and speak of Lincoln and the 1863 address amid security and ceremonial events.

Pistol Found in Car Delays Route to Presidential Convoy

Police found a pistol in a tourist car on the Presidential convoy route at S Stratton Street and E Middle Street. Patrick R O Donnell and his father Edward R O Donnell, both from Dallas, were questioned and released on nominal bail. Secret Service checked their story.

Security Mission Shines at Gettysburg Summit Visit

Police from the United States Egypt and Israel provided tight security for the Gettysburg Battlefield visit by Israel Prime Minister Menachem Begin Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and US President Jimmy Carter. National Park Service staff coordinated a flawless operation with praise from Carter and the Secret Service while observers witnessed a historic display of cross national security cooperation.

Two In Hospital With Injuries From Accidents

State police reported three separate weekend accidents resulting in four people injured and hospitalized. Timothy L Williams eight of 237 Longstreet Lake Heritage sustained injuries when his minibike collided with a stopped car operated by Peter Zablotsky twenty three of Strousburg R1. He was in satisfactory condition at Warner Hospital. Rebecca A Neiderer of Gettsyburg R3 was admitted in satisfactory condition after her 1975 Chevrolet Nova left Rt 116 in Mt Pleasant Two. Her car ran off the road through a fence and into bushes. Francis L DeGroit twenty eight and his daughter Stacey six were treated at Warner Hospital after their pickup truck overturned on Twp Rt 531 near Bull Valley Road Center Mills. They were transported by Biglerville Fire Company ambulance. Police noted damage to multiple vehicles and lawns.

East Berlin Historic Society Hosts Colonial Days Event

East Berlin drew crowds as 150 craftsmen and hundreds of visitors attended the fourth annual Colonial Days. Town crier in period dress opened the day with 18th century announcements while colonial music, square dancing, and audience dancing filled the schedule. Craft demos from Pennsylvania Maryland and Virginia showcased pot throwing weaving and candle making. Proceeds fund Sweigert's Mill restoration. A star quilt auction raised funds.
