Three County Districts Abstain on EMR Classes
Three Adams County districts Bermudian Springs Littlestown and Conewago Valley have not notified the Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 of intent to take over EMR education for their students. Cystic Fibrosis Drive Names Local Chairmen in Adams County
The Central Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis Foundation chapter announced a dozen local chairmen to coordinate the annual fundraising drive in Adams County. James A. Shoop, chapter president, noted chairmen will lead volunteers to support the foundation in battling Cystic Fibrosis and other serious pediatric lung diseases. Adams County SPCA board learned the lowest bid for the proposed shelter came in 15 percent above the planned expenditure. Only two of five invited local contractors submitted bids. The building committee and architect will review costs and consider cuts before resubmitting. A special meeting is set for September 19 at the Elks Home in Gettysburg to decide on recommendations.

Fairfield opens as schools start 1978-79 term
More than 00 children in the Fairfield Area School District began the 1978-79 year with general smoothness under School Supt Samuel McHenry. Bus schedule glitches are expected due to a new split system, secondary classes at 8 a.m. and elementary at 4 45 a.m. Fairfield was last in the county to open. Gettysburg College opened with about 1900 students and 540 freshmen arriving over Labor Day weekend. Mt Saint Marys enrolled a record 1400 plus students, with Convocation and welcome events scheduled Monday and Thursday mornings.

Pardon Board To Consider Plank Release
The state Board of Pardons will consider William H. Plank Jr.'s application on September 28 in Harrisburg. Plank, 34, of Gettysburg, was sentenced to 3.5 to 7 years after guilty verdicts for arson criminal mischief and reckless endangerment, plus a 1976 theft plea for a 3230 pickup top from Schwartz's Camping Center and other items. He faced several arson and criminal mischief charges dating 1973 to 1975, with damages totaling about 1,050 dollars and involvement in a May 1974 Reading Railroad derailment.
