Stevens St Man Placed In Jail In Burglary Case

Roy Lee Emory, 22, of 29 E. Stevens St, was jailed after arraignment on burglary charges. Bail set at 10600 by Magistrate John C. Zepper. Police say he broke in through a bathroom window at the Statlers home on E Water St during Labor Day weekend while the owners were camping. Son and cousin arrived as the burglar fled at 1 45 a m and frightened him off.

Labor Day Death Toll Totals 494

The Labor Day weekend highway death toll reached 494 by midnight Monday as the counting period ended. The National Safety Council had estimated 479 to 570 deaths for the three day period. Last year 469 deaths occurred during the holiday weekend. Ten years ago fatalities were 688, the worst on record.

Two area businesses joined the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon for muscular dystrophy. Kessier's Bakery opened Sunday to Monday raising 701.74 with 200.29 from customer donations. staff donated time. Don Warner Chevrolet-Buick collected 95.22 from refreshments and gifts, with 25 per car pledged later. Green Acres Nursing Home guests and staff helped raise 347.49. Lorraine McMaster collected funds at the home.

Fire Co Building Vandalized in Bonneauville

Bonneauville police and state police from Gettysburg hunt leads after 15 dollars worth of powder blue paint was splattered inside the Bonneauville Fire Co building sometime Saturday. Chief Ambrose Martin found the damage about 1 am Sunday as he entered the storage area near the ladies’ room.

County Borough Police Pension Funds Allocation Totals 1977

Eleven Adams County municipalities received a total of $86 775 68 in police pension funds for the 1977 tax year. Cumberland Oxford Township and others allocated varying amounts with several withholdings due to audit findings and missing actuarial studies. Continued on Page 24 for details.
