Gas leak may have caused fire at Fairfield residence

Fairfield authorities say a propane gas leak likely sparked a Monday explosion and blaze that destroyed the Michael E Branch home at 424 McGlaughlin Road. Fire Marshal James Boyle concluded on site the cause. officials could not determine how ignition occurred. Fire crews from Fairfield, Emmitsburg and Gettysburg fought the two story fire, with stand-by cover from Barlow and Cashtown. The Branch family is staying with neighbors.
