HGAC to mark third anniversary with banquet at Sheraton

Historic Gettysburg-Adams County Inc. will host a public dinner on Sept 26 at the Sheraton Inn south of Gettysburg to celebrate its founding. Henry Magaziner, Philadelphia architect and NPS adviser, will give a one hour illustrated lecture on preservation efforts, with proceeds $5 including tip.

Mount Saint Mary's to Begin Classes Sept 6 With Largest Enrollment

Mount St. Mary’s College, America’s oldest independent Catholic college, starts classes September 6 with a record enrollment of over 1400 students, a rise of more than 70 from 1977-78. Historic Gettysburg Marathon Set For September 16

More than 17 states will be represented as Gettysburg hosts its first Historic Gettysburg Marathon on September 16 at the National Military Park. Over 1600 entry requests have been filed, with 34 pre-registered so far and a final surge expected the race day. Local couple Robert and Debbie Selby train daily on the park route, averaging about 10 miles per session for the full 26 miles. A Honolulu entrant and a three generation Ohio family are noted among participants, highlighting broad interest in the inaugural event.

South Mountain Fair Opens Monday At Arendtsville

Summer worship ends at National Park Amphitheatre

The tenth season of Gettysburg Ministerium summer worship at the National Park Amphitheatre concludes this Sunday at 8 a.m. with Rev. Robert Shreiner speaking. PennDOT Week Work Schedule in Adams County

PennDOT released the weekly work list for Adams County. The Bridge Crew will replace deteriorating pipe on SR 613 between Route 4 and Dick’s Dam Rd. An inlet will be placed on E King St SR 230 in Littlestown. Crews will mow around guard fences on Route 15 from Heidlersburg to Route 30 and patch shoulders on LR 3424 north of Cross Keys with oil and chips. Route 15 paving from Marsh Creek to Maryland boundary. Schedule subject to change.

Freshmen Arrive as Gettysburg College Opens New Year

Gettysburg College welcomes 541 new students for its 47th academic year. Freshmen 292 men and 249 women check into dorms, receive IDs, and begin a five day orientation. Events include Service of New Beginning at Christ Chapel, faculty orientation, class registration, a student talent show, and the annual convocation with President Charles E. Glassick speaking on So What. Richard Wilson will receive an honorary Doctor of Literature degree.

CHICAGO AP The National Safety Council warned the Labor Day weekend could claim 470 to 570 highway deaths as millions take the last warm weather holiday. Nine deaths were reported by 5 00 a m EDT today. The council estimates 100 to 120 lives could be saved if belt use is universal.

Adams County childbirth classes begin September six

The Adams County Visiting Nurses Association resumes childbirth education at St James Lutheran Church York Street on Wednesday September six at 730 pm. The seven week course covers pregnancy prenatal care labor delivery newborn postpartum breastfeeding and labor breathing techniques.
