County Could Lose State Reimbursement

Adams County may lose state reimbursement for county court operating costs next year unless the governor’s veto is overridden. State Senator Moore said the Senate failed to override because half of 48 million would go to Philadelphia under the House bill. County figures show 1977 reimbursements of 10,718 on 88,345.01 1976 costs and 362,052.99 for 1977 expenses to date on 98,336.20.

Fairfield Bank Sued Over Missing Funds in Checking Account

Harold R. Deardorff sues First National Bank of Fairfield in Adams County Court, claiming $31000 owed from his checking account. He says 13 April 1976 deposit was recorded as 13657 but bank later credited only 33657 and refused to pay $10000 after meetings in 1977. He seeks $10000 plus interest from April 13, 1976.

Fire Chief urges Gettysburg firemen and related groups to reserve for the Fourth Annual Gettysburg Fire Department Awards Banquet at the Stonehenge Restaurant. Fire Hits Mobile Home Leaving Only The Frame

A mobile home fire at Castle Hit Mobile Home Park on Bus Rt 13 near Gettysburg destroyed a trailer home belonging to Michael Weigle and John Constable. Firefighter Todd Dunlap was lightly injured. Weigle escaped through a bedroom window as flames engulfed the structure. Cause traced to a cigarette smoldering on a rug. Residents taken in by relatives. mop up lasted over an hour. A separate car fire on Hunterstown Road damaged a 1973 Pontiac engine compartment, with $106 damage.

Boy Fatally Hurt While Hunting At Iron Springs

Gregory E West a 14 year old Fairfield area youth died from a shotgun wound near Iron Springs while hunting squirrels. Deputy coroner Dr. Leah Maitland ruled the wound accidental with preliminary investigation by Game Protector Larry Haynes indicating the youth likely caused the shot. The boy, born in Gettysburg and son of John and Joyce West, was a Fairfield High School sophomore and member of United Brethren in Christ Church. Funeral arrangements set for Friday at Monahan Funeral Home Fairfield with Rev Amos Ripe officiating. Interment Fairfield Union Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening at Monahan Funeral Home.

Trick Or Treat For UNICEF Aids World Children Plan

Adams County UNICEF will again run a Trick or Treat program in which school children collect funds for malnutrition and other needs in poorer countries. After school Oct 30 and 31 Gettysburg area will host UNICEF boxes for contributions, with other parts of the county possibly collecting at other times. Local chairmen include Rev. Paul Blank Arendtsville and Mrs. Robert Wolf Bermudian Springs among others. last year the county raised 1154.45 to help children worldwide.

Wagnild Debuts as Gettysburg Seminary Music Director

Dr Parker B Wagnild, founder of the Gettysburg College College Choir, returns for a second debut by directing the Seminary Choirs in a 7 pm concert at the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary chapel.
