New Oxford Policeman Killed In Pursuit Crash

New Oxford Borough Patrolman James Allen Redding 30 of Colonial Crest Apts Hanover was killed when his northbound 1976 cruiser ran off a curve on Rokler Mill Rd near New Oxford and struck a large tree while pursuing a motorcyclist. He died en route to Hanover Hospital from massive internal injuries. Funeral services are planned at Littles Funeral Home with interment at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may go to Parkville Fire Co.

State Police Probe Rash of Accidents Over Weekend

State police investigated a series of traffic crashes on county roads over the weekend. Michael Hunt, 26, Gettysburg Road 6, treated at Warner Hospital after his car struck guard posts on Rt. 140. Ant Joy Two, a mile south of town, was rushed to Gettysburg Hospital by fire department ambulance after a 11:20 p.m. collision, Hunt facing charges of driving under the influence and crossing the center line, released on nominal bail. Jerry Laughman, 27, East Berlin Route 2, not injured when his car hit a sign in front of Locust Inn on Rt. 4 while avoiding another vehicle. Edward Dennis, 72, New Oxford, and Elwood Rohrbaugh Jr., 53, Hanover Route 2, not injured in a collision at Rt. 234 and Bus. Rt. 15 in Heidlersburg. firemen aided. No injuries at Abbottstown and Locust Streets in East Berlin. Ky Trimmer, 16, East Berlin, involved. Judy James, 19, East Berlin Route 2, and Gary Daugherty, 26, Hanover Route 2, minor damage in Rt. 234 and Rt. 334 crash two miles north of Hampton.

Mount Saint Marys Honors Two as Seminarians Protest

Two coveted medals were awarded at a Mt. St. Marys College alumni banquet. Leonel J. Castillo received the Dubois Medal for community service while John Hanson Briscoe earned the Brute Award for alumni achievement. A march by seminarians sparked a walkout of about 100 attendees before Briscoe’s presentation.

Trick Or Treat On Way Out In County Area

Halloween plans in Adams County show parties outnumber Trick or Treat events two to one. Only Arendtsville, Bendersville, Biglerville, Orrtanna and Getty will keep Trick or Treat night. Arendtsville Bendersville and Biglerville plan a joint event on Tuesday Oct 31 from 6 30 to 8 30 p.m. Orrtanna will host visitors the same evening.

Fire engulfs rear structure in Gettysburg blaze

Gettysburg Firemen responded at 11 30 a m to 47 Hanover Street where the first unit reported a house structure at the rear fully engulfed in flames prompting a quick response from firefighting units.

Begin Tests Soon On Cancer Reducer

The American Cancer Society says tests will start mid November on patients using interferon a white blood cell extract. It has reduced tumor size in animals and a few humans. About 150 patients will receive the scarce extract now produced in Finland, with 25 patients for each of six cancer types.

Lutherans and Catholics plan a joint dialogue at St James Lutheran Church York. Ambulance Collision En Route To Crash Injures Few

Three area ambulance crews responded to a Blue Ribbon Road crash near Cashtown as Esther Marshaman, 73, of Biglerville, flipped her southbound 1970 Ford sedan. The Biglerville ambulance collided with Edward Plank’s 1976 Jeep at Rt. 30 Cashtown intersection, flipping the ambulance. no injuries to responders, Plank treated for scrapes.
