Contractor Sues Adams Electric Over Reputation Damage

Oxford Building and Development Co of 31 York S Hanover filed suit in Adams County against Adams Electric Cooperative Gettysburg and two employees Charles Overman and Leo Weaver alleging libel and malicious actions to ruin its reputation. The complaint cites April 1978 statements by Weaver to multiple homeowners and contractors that Oxford homes were not well insulated, seeks damages totaling 30 000 and future losses, and notes Lambert sought release from a March contract due to alleged insulation issues.

Governor Shapp Vetoes John Doe Fund Bill

Governor Milton Shapp vetoed a bill allowing counties to keep excess funds from tax claim sales of John Doe properties. Adams County has collected 388,000 in five years. The measure, sponsored by Senator William J. Moore, passed Sept. 26 and was vetoed nine days later. The legislature may reconvene in January.

Rev Swick Named To Lutheran Post

Rev. Kenneth G. Swick of Biglerville R2 is appointed assistant director of Congregational and Community Services in the South Region. Adams County Holiday Bureau Receives 500 Dollar Gift

Mrs Charles A Smith chair of the Adams County Holiday Bureau announced a 500 dollar check from Cumberland County National Bank. CCNB president Edward O Baker presented the gift at the Lamp Post Inn while outlining support for the 1978 Christmas season. Youth Honor Day Events Set By Local Moose

Upward of 600 children are expected for the annual Youth Honor Day events hosted by the local Moose lodge on York Street October 30. Activities split into two age groups with a 6 to 8 pm party for younger children and a teen dance afterward. The lodge began Youth programs about 30 years ago to offer safe Halloween fun and curb prank damage. The lodge issued 3.00 Youth Honor Day pledges to area schools urging citizens to avoid defacement or harm during Halloween, with Mayor Charles L naming October 39 as Youth Honor Day in a proclamation read at the lodge meeting. Plans include a Halloween Week dance October 28 and a pig roast and events on October 29, plus treats and costume prizes. An anniversary program week is planned for November 12 with banquets and a class enrollment on November 18. Gov Brailes and F Morelock presided.

May Develop Hostel On Battlefield

The National Park Service unveiled a policy to develop inexpensive hostels in selected national parks to provide supervised overnight stays. Potential sites include Gettysburg Battlefield, with no firm proposal yet. hostels aim to balanced, energy efficient accommodations and boost hiking and cycling access.

Adams to Join Allegheny Suit Over Farview Hospital Costs

Adams County commissioners signed a petition to the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania to join an Allegheny County suit against Farview State Hospital alleging arbitrary rate setting. The suit notes rates rose from 8.70 to 175 dollars per day since 1967, with annual per patient costs cited at 364,000. Also approved a film projector program for Green Acres County Home Hog with Bell & Howell projector and 25 programs for 1,090 dollars.

Gettysburg Youth Shot in Left Foot Near Railroad Street

A Gettysburg youth and two companions were shot at about 9 p.m. Friday on West Railroad Street. Thomas F. Fitzberger, 71 Stevens Street, was treated at Warmer Hospital for a left foot wound. Police report a single shot was fired from a black car that pulled up beside them as they walked from Tommy's Pizza toward Wayne Thurfey's home.

Nine hurt in Friday traffic crashes on two roads

Five people were injured in three separate Friday accidents near New Oxford and Gettysburg. Robin Leatherman, 16, and Terry Baugher, 16, were treated or admitted after a collision at Brickerafter and Freshman Mill roads. Henry Frank, 18, of New Oxford, also treated at Hanover Hospital. Joseph Knight, 20, was treated at Warner Hospital after being struck by a car driven by Cindy Knight near Sunken Gardens Motel. Cindy Knight faces pending charges. Sandy Sharrah, 19, of Orrtanna, was involved in a collision with a farm tractor on Scott Schoolhouse Road near Cashtown.

Nationally Known Planner To Seek Aid For Fahnestock Bldg

Representatives from state government and a nationally known historic district planner will examine the Fahnestock Building at Baltimore and West Rhiddle Sis to determine its future. The building, vacant for years, faces possible loss without preservation funds. Weiland of the Fahnestock Joint Committee said the state Department of Community Affairs may offer assistance and federal funds through its outdoor recreation division could aid rehabilitation for contemporary use.
