Population of Adams County Rises Sharply in 1970 76

The U S Census Bureau reports Adams County population grew about ten percent from 1970 to 1976, rising from 30 937 to 34 add 2 residents. Hamilton Township shows the largest gain with 252 new residents and a 12 percent rise. The boroughs overall increased by about two percent, while Arendisville led with nearly 16 percent growth. McSherrystown and Bendersville declined slightly.

Maysie Henderson Dies at 91 Honored for Service

Mrs. Maysie Reed Henderson 91 of 12 West Main St Fairfield died Wednesday at 3 50 PM She was first woman named outstanding citizen of the year by Gettysburg Chamber for 37 years nursing teaching and community work A Millersville graduate she taught and was principal in PA DE and ND before marrying Dr Ira Henderson in 1917 The couple aided a medical ministry in Fairfield and she helped deliver babies She leaves one daughter and a brother funeral 2 PM Friday at Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church with private interment Lincoln Cemetery Readied memorials to Red Cross or a favorite charity

Jaws Free Hand From Corn Picker In Farm Accident

Bonneauville firemen aided by New Oxford firefighters using the Jaws of Life removed the left hand of Rodney Powell of Gettysburg R7 from a corn picker on his Kilpatrick Road farm. He was taken to York Hospital in satisfactory condition. Powell was cleaning the picker when the accident occurred.

Pleasant Valley Barn Destroyed in Prolonged Fire

A large straw filled barn on Theodore Green farm at 1908 Stone Road northeast of Pleasant Valley burned for hours. Pleasant Valley and Littlestown units along with Taneytown Harney and New Windsor fought the blaze for over 12 hours, saving a bank barn and a loafing shed. Compromise Set In Namibia Elections

Pretoria reports Prime Minister Pieter Botha announced a compromise allowing South Africa to run its own elections in South-West Africa while negotiating U.N.-supervised elections next year. Williams Named Plant Manager at Westinghouse Gettysburg

Roger C. Williams of Lester Pennsylvania was appointed plant manager of the Westinghouse Gettysburg operation.
