NPS Seeks Hold On Rt 30 Bypass Development

Littlestown Opposes Route Change To Rt 97

Littlestown planners urged the borough council to oppose PennDOTs plan to rename US Rt 140 to PA Rt 97. They warned local businesses would need new addresses and noted potential impacts on development and maintenance costs. The commission previously wrote PennDOT with little reply and sought support from state Rep. Kenneth J. Cole.

Gas Leak Triggers 15 Minute Evacuation At Gettysburg Junior High

A minor natural gas leak in a second floor science room prompted a 15 minute evacuation of Gettysburg Junior High at 2 50 p m Thursday. Gettysburg firefighters, joined by Columbia Gas crews, arrived as custodians shut off the main valve after a shut off knob was broken.

Barlow Receives State Loan for Fire Department Pumper

State Rep Kenneth J. Cole announced a 331,730 loan from the Volunteer Loan Assistance Program to Barlow Volunteer Fire Co in Cumberland Two for a new pumper. The loan settlement is set for Oct 17 at 10 am in Adams County Court House Baltimore and W Middle Street Gettysburg.

County Urged to Act on $100,000 Water Aid Plan

Adams County faces loss of state and federal funds if a county wide water plan is not implemented. Pelligrini told the Community Relations Committee that a Harrisburg meeting with DEA officials highlighted funds for a demonstration project to ease water problems in Abbots town Bonneauville and Littlestown. Rep Kenneth J Cole said $100,000 is available if a county office is created to run the plan. The CRC plans to push commissioners to grant authority and act by December before state wide reviews end.

Adams County Signs CETA Contracts With No Liability

Adams County commissioners signed contracts carrying CETA titles II and VI through December but stated the county will not be liable for program costs if CETA funds run out after October. Labor and Industry reduced funds awaiting Congress action. 142 workers are affected. Authorities also approved roof repair inquiry with Carlisle Tire and Rubber Co and other bids and funding actions, including a $356,907 federal grant for a youth sheltered care center.
