Bermudian School Directors Plan Regular Public Meeting Changes

Bermudian School Directors set December 3 for a regular board meeting replacing the December 12 session and discussed expanding public discussion. They authorized bids on a 173 B project and a separate bid on a 1 project, plus a bid solicitation for another item. The York Springs PTO sought funds, and a supplemental contract with Janet Todd to transport students from Immaculate Conception School was approved. General Fund bills totaling 208,889.96 and Construction Fund expenses of 3,764,945 were approved. Personnel changes included hiring Shirley Sperizel as long term substitute at York Springs Elementary through 1978-79, Kay Springs as part time cafeteria worker, and Steve Warner as student custodian under ETAL. The board also approved adding a paid chess team as an extracurricular activity.

Final arrangements for bicycle registration program in Gettysburg

The Exchange Club organized a voluntary bicycle registration drive with four registration days at local schools October through November. Georgia and Virginia Apple Queens Seek National Title

Fifteen contestants from Georgia, Virginia, and 13 other states compete in the Queen USA Contest. The pageant at the Sheraton Inn features Tamara Lace and Mrs F Davis Lacey of Georgia, Diane Solenberri of Virginia, and Elina Lions Club member from Wake Forest University. Solenberg is a sophomore at Wake Forest, valedictorian in high school, pursuing French and anthropology museum work. Ontario Couple Hosted By Local Exchange Club

Ontario couple Ewan and Marilyn Hannis of Oshawa were honored guests with Pennsylvania Week observances by the Gettysburg Exchange Club. They toured the battlefield in a 1953 Packard Caribbean, enjoyed a luncheon at the Dutch Cupboard, and stayed at Gettysburg Historic Inn amid a Ladies Night program with mementoes and local treats.

Adams County fire companies receive state funds total

State Auditor General reports 374,056 66 in fire insurance tax funds allocated to four Adams County municipalities for distribution to local fire companies and pension funds. Payments depend on premiums from out of state insurers. Gettysburg led with 10,323 38. Other listed amounts include Abbottstown 444362, Biglerville Industrie, and numerous townships, totaling 14,168,494 to 2,450 municipalities.

Biglerville Sets Oct 31 For Trick or Treat Night

Biglerville Borough Council awarded a snow removal contract to local contractors and fixed Trick or Treat for October 31 from 6 30 to 8 30 p m. Robert MacBeth won the roading and hauling snow contract while Owen Cooley received the plowing contract. Owen Taylor declined to bid again. Bendersville and Arendtsville join the event on the same evening with the same hours.

Trick Or Treat Set For Oct 30 In Gettysburg

Gettysburg Mayor Charles Lightner set Monday October 30 from 6 to 9 pm for Trick or Treat activities in the borough. He noted many children will attend the Moose Honor Day program that evening but said children in the main trick or treat age should finish the Moose event in time to enjoy treats on their way home.

Man Injured In Route 34 Crash Near Biglerville

State police reported minor head lacerations for Settle after his 1989 Chevrolet ran off a freshly paved stretch of Route 34. The northbound car dropped off a two inch berm, crossed the highway, and struck an embankment two and a half miles north of Biglerville at 5:30 a.m. today. Police noted moderate vehicle damage and that Settle refused immediate treatment.
