Hanover man, 24, killed in Rt 194 crash

Adams County coroner says Grothey of Hanover Route 1 died at the scene after his 1974 Ford Pinto struck a tree on Route 194 near Abbottstown. He was the county’s 26th road death this year. Funeral set for Oct. 9 at Workinger Funeral Home in York.

Dr Glassick To Give Sermon For Methodists

Columbus Day Mail Holiday at Gettysburg Post Office

Gettysburg Post Office will observe Columbus Day as a mail holiday with a rest day for most staff. Postmaster Charles Pentz reports the lobby closes Sunday and no mail moves out. On Monday the lobby opens 9 am to 4 pm with a small crew handling mail. no deliveries, including rural routes, will occur.

Gettysburg High Prepares 15th Annual Homecoming

Gettysburg Senior High School announces its 15th annual Homecoming on Saturday October 7 at Musselman Stadium on the Gettysburg College campus. 19 Year Old Woman Acquitted Of Involuntary Manslaughter

An Adams County jury acquitted Georgiana Jo Kotzman of involuntary manslaughter in a traffic crash that killed Robert Bollinger. Bollinger died 13 days after the June 25, 1977 accident from acute respiratory failure linked to chest injuries. Wayne Bollinger testified the cars collided while traveling on Route 30 near Hanover.

A cervical cancer detection program for Adams County women starts Saturday at Annunciation School in McSherrystown from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. led by Gladys Parks RN, with additional sessions including Tuesday Oct 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Family Planning Agency office in Gettysburg and other area sites such as Biglerville High School and St. Pauls in Lebanon, offering examinations to residents.

Robbery Suspect Posing as Army Man Sought

Gettysburg state police seek a white male in his twenties about five feet nine inches tall with black hair and tan army uniform who robbed Wilkham Rarishi 31 of 29 Scranton Street Shippensburg of 31.0 certificate of deposit 35 cash a wallet a silver wedding ring and a digital wrist watch at Seminary Avenue Gettysburg at 10 pm Thursday. The suspect fled toward the turnpike after Wright picked him up near the Philadelphia entrance. Investigation continues.

Guy Donaldson Elected President of Adams County Farmers

Guy Donaldson of Gettysburg R4 was elected president of the Adams County Farmers Association at a board meeting in Gettysburg. William Slagle was named vice president, Beverly Benner secretary, and Calvin Bream treasurer. The board listed captains for the annual membership drive and announced a Dec 12 kickoff at Two Taverns. Catholic Social Services a United Way agency reports most calls for service are for individual and family counseling with over 200 county residents helped last year. The agency offers marriage counseling general services and pregnancy help with a sliding fee scale and no one refused aid. Future emphasis will include structural family counseling and budget counseling while CSS remains the county’s sole program focusing on alternatives to abortion.
