Grand Army of the Republic Remembrance Day Draws Crowds
In Gettysburg crowds gather for the 34th GAR Remembrance Day as Al lied Orders honor Civil War soldiers. Wreaths are laid at the Albert J. Woolson monument in Zeigler Avenue and James Getty delivers the Gettysburg Address at the parade. Civil War reenactors, including the 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Fire and Drum Corps, perform period tunes. Brig. Gen. Charles Corman introduces Brig. Gen. More than 30 Gettysburg high school Key Club members spent Friday night to Saturday morning outdoors in Lincoln Square to raise awareness and about 1,500 dollars for the South Central Community Action Program. They aim to continue collecting donations this week as Adams County faces a housing shortage for low income residents amid college renovation plans.

In Gettysburg the Holiday Bureau aided by Church Women United has served Adams County families for 35 years. Lois Boenau notes the program's impact as sacks of food certificates coats and toys reach almost 600 families via social service agencies. ABATE bikers delivered toys marking the 11th year of the drive which fills trucks with gifts for children up to age 12.
