Arendtsville plans 40 lot Glenwood development on east side

Glenn E Simpson Son Inc and William F Hill Associates told the Arendtsville Borough Council they still plan a 40 lot Glenwood subdivision along the east side, but extensive revisions are needed due to wetlands. PennDOT driveway approvals and sewer line placement reviews by the borough engineer are pending. The council noted past 10 lots per year pace and may approve after more information. They also budgeted library and Lions Club grants and hired a consulting engineer for borough renovations.

Gettysburg Address anniversary program features Kemp

The 127th Gettysburg Address anniversary, on November 19 at 1 45 p m, will be observed by the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania in Soldiers National Cemetery on the Gettysburg battlefield Kemp Jack F HUD secretary will be guest speaker Kemp a former NFL QB with the Chargers and Bills later served in Congress and in Bush's cabinet The program includes Lincoln Address by James 4 Getty music by Gettysburg High School Ceremonial Brass Band and Wayne Hill reading the winning Gettysburg Travel Council essay Wreaths will be placed by Ketterman Jr Riley and Cisneros The day opens with a 1145 a m luncheon at Gettysburg Holiday Inn featuring Harold Holzer Holzer co author of The Lincoln Image The luncheon also covers a plan for a Lincoln statue outside the Wills House with sculptor J Seward Johnson Jr The Rev Daniel Hans will offer prayer If weather turns inclement the ceremony moves to the National Park Service Cyclorama Center

Drug task force to produce county video on drugs

Adams County will focus on megal drugs in a new videotape produced by the county drug task force. The 12 to 15 minute production explains drug origins, warning signs, and traffic patterns to help identify pushers, with assistance from the college. The tape may air on Adams Community Television Channel 28. The task force operates with eight part time officers from five municipalities and runs a 24 hour Drug Tipline 337 6432, which has already drawn six calls in less than a week. Caller anonymity is protected, and tips may involve burglary or other illegal activity.

Water quality program teaches citizens to monitor streams

The Izaak Walton League releases a 28 minute video Save Our Streams to guide volunteers nationwide in detecting pollution through simple tests and aquatic organism surveys. Volunteers across 37 states participate, with 3 000 projects and efforts from ages five to one hundred six.
