Adams County recount opens as Pa House race awaits outcome

In Adams County the election board began recanvassing ballots to shape a statewide recount. Judge Oscar F Spicer ordered the recount for the 91st district race between Democrat incumbent Kenneth J. Cole and Republican Donald K. Moui, with only List district to be included later. Cole expressed doubt the recount would break a tie, noting the ballot boxes may settle the issue.

Twelve High School Bands at Gettysburg College Band Day

Twelve high school bands including Biglerville Fairfield and Hazelton Her shey Honstkong Kennard Dale Bonn Grove Kenwood Lampeter Strasburg Mountain View Kingsley North Eastern Manchester North Schurhill Ashland and Townsend will perform at Gettysburg College Musselman Stadium for Baré Day on Saturday November 11 joining the college band in a Beatles tribute at 1 PM. William Powers will direct the 120 musician assembly.

Man Injured After Ford Truck Crash Near Biglerville

Gregory A. Myers, 21, of New Oxford escaped injury when his 1972 Ford truck ran off RS 234 two miles east of Biglerville at 3 30 a m. Police said Myers fell asleep at the wheel, the vehicle overturned and rolled down an embankment.

Shriners Seek Funds For Hospitals In Pennsylvania

Adams County Shrine Club members distribute a special newspaper to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children and Burns Institutes. Edward Paris says the drive aims to support 21 hospitals and aid more than 300 local children receiving care. The effort runs in Lincoln Square and North Gettysburg Shopping Center with over 2,000 Zemba Shrine members statewide behind it.

Keefauver Elementary hosts a Monday evening open house from 7 to 9 PM for parents with 5 aunuel? Open House details include primary grades and sixth grade chorus at 7 30, while James Gettys School holds its Open House on Thursday November 16 from 7 to 9 PM. Sixth grade chorus performs at 7 PM and demonstrations by physical education students begin at 7 30 PM. Bake sale, cider, and pretzels will be sold at both schools to fund the Sixth Grade Outdoor Education Program.

Library Friends Hear Author A Frassanito Talk

The Friends of the Library welcome A Frassanito author of Pictorial History and Antietam as guest speaker on Tuesday November 14 in the Upper Fellowship Room of the Presbyterian Church. A reception follows in the children’s room zone library. Frassanito, a Gettsyburg College graduate, studied Civil War photography since age nine and holds a master’s in American Cultural History from the Cooperstown Graduate Program. the event is open to the public.

Biesecker to quit as Adams County commissioner this year

Harry F. Biesecker, a Republican and 11 year county commissioner, confirms plans to resign by January. He cites budget pressures and litigation as key frustrations and says he will work with the party for a smooth transition. Sharon Kerley Dies In York County Head-On Crash

Sharon Kerley of Gettysburg Route 8 Herr's Ridge Road died after her car collided head-on with a tractor trailer on Route 37 Paradise Four in York County near Thomasville at 11 37 p.m Friday. The driver of the tractor trailer Glenn E Bish was treated for shock. Kerley’s body transported to York Hospital. Funeral arrangements by Monahan Funeral Home Gettysburg. Victory Luncheon Delayed for Adams County United War Drive

Officials and canvassers planned a victory luncheon at the Gettysburg YWCA as the Adams County United War drive nears its goal. Campaign chair Ruth Fair said the drive is progressing but far from the $212,710 target, now approaching the $10000 mark, prompting postponement and renewed urging for increased donations.

Area Housing Assistance Payments Set Adams County

Nearly 320 080 of Adams County federal tax money will be returned each year through the new Section 3 Existing Housing Assistance Payments Program. Commander Harvis Gustafson, coordinator, says the plan will benefit all citizens directly or indirectly and stimulate the local economy. Adams County PennDOT schedules road work week of Nov 13 17

PennDOT released a tentative maintenance schedule for the Adams County office for November 13 through 17. The bridge crew will widen the bridge at Quaker Run between Biglerville and Flora Dale while patching shoulders on Route 23 between Biglerville and Heidersburg and applying hot mix on L.R. roads between Route 6 and Bonneauville. Surface heating and widening planned on L.R. 01003 between Barlow and Tea Taverns and patches on L.R. 01041 and 0107 in the Big Flat area. Litter pickup to occur in the Fairfield area.
