Harbaugh Honored by Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce

Five awards were given at the Gettysburg Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner at the Sheraton Inn Gettysburg. Marion Thomas Harbaugh of Biglerville received the 1978 Outstanding Citizen Award. the posthumous Adams County Outstanding Citizen Award honored the late Paul L. Roy, former editor of The Gettysburg Times, and his family accepted it. Edwin M. Cole spoke for Mrs Roy and her sons. Ronald L Han announced three Distinguished Service Awards to Edwin M. Cole, Joseph C. Corcett, and Ronald O. Nicodemus for meritorious service and achievements including the relighting of the Eternal Light Peace Memorial. Dr. James D. Sheen lauded Harbaugh for community service, noting her leadership in Biglerville and Adams County, board work, and efforts supporting senior citizens, local groups, and Bicentennial events.

Spicer Orders Recount of Votes in 41st District Race

The Adams County Court ordered a two ballot recount in the stalemated 41st district contest between Democrat Kenneth J. Cole and Republican Donald R. Moul. The recount, starting Monday, could delay House organization for four to six months. Attorneys for the candidates said the process may stretch over days, with unofficial Tuesday results hinting at a potential tie in the 91st district seat. The candidates and counsel urged prompt resolution as wire services and networks waited.

Two Car Collision Causes Minor Damage on Berlin Road

A two car crash on Berlin Road near New Oxford High School at 3:05 pm Thursday caused minor damage to both vehicles. Shani Slee of Abbottstown attempted a left turn from the high school parking lot and collided with a car driven by Philip Shrader. No injuries reported.

Nehri to Speak at Full Gospel Meal in Gettysburg

Milton Leo Nehri of Mechanicsburg will address Adams County Chapter of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International at a Gettysburg fire hall dinner Saturday evening at 6 30. Ford says Nehri served as executive pilot for Gilbert Lumber Co in West Virginia for four years and later joined FGBMFI as a representative and vice president of the Habsburg Chapter. He has appeared on TV and written on oil pressure in Voice Magazine and with Jonna participated in a 1973 FGBMFI event in Kenya and Scotland.

Hanover Boy Listed In Serious Condition After Vehicle Crash

Wade Peters, ര242.son of Mr and Mrs. Robert Peters, was in New Oxford visiting when he ran between parked cars into a 1966 Pontiac driven by Bernie L. Garret, 22. He was admitted to Hanover General Hospital and later transferred to York Hospital ICU. New Oxford Police continue the investigation of the accident.

Gettysburg man gets four to ten years in prison

Mark Arentz, 22, of Gettysburg, was sentenced in Adams County court to four to ten years in state prison for solicitation to murder Michael Wiliam Keiser. Judge Oscar F. Spicer gave one year off for honesty but noted Arentz’s prior record and criminal history while praising his cooperation with law enforcement. The judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation after a guilty plea.

Union Two survey catalogues historic sites in Union Twp

A survey of 161 sites in Union Township by Preservation Associates for Historic Gettysburg Adams County notes about five percent may be nominated to state and national Registers. Hostetter House on RS 116 near Bonneauville and Brushtown, built in 1905, could anchor a possible district. The project, funded by a 310 000 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, seeks 210 000 in in kind support, with HGAC soliciting volunteers countywide. call 333-5188.

CRC Pressure on County and NPS over Water and Sewer Delays

Adams County Commission ers and the National Park Service faced sharp criticism from the Community Relations Committee for delays in addressing water and sewer issues.
