U S Army restricts use of the slide for life training after ROTC Cadet Patti Ann Stoner died Oct 1 during a high risk exercise near Bloomery West Virginia. An Army probe found the death occurred in unreviewed training with safety gaps.

Mount Saint Marys Conference on Law and Community

A Swodar conference titled The Law and the Community will run Nov 3 to Dec 1 at Mount St. Marys College Emmitsburg led by federal Judge and six prominent attorneys. Speakers include the Maryland House of Delegates speaker, a federal district Judge, a state's prosecuting attorney, a director of the Washington Capitals, an international law professor, and two more attorneys. All seven speakers are Mt. St. Marys College graduates, per Dr. Kenneth Eshleman.

Man Arrested After Gun Pointed At Police Sergeant

A Gettsburg Man, James L Johnson, 228 Baltimore St, faces two counts each of recklessly endangering and simple assault after allegedly pointing a loaded shotgun at two residents and at Police Sergeant James L Johnson during a 40 minute standoff on Saturday. Johnson was persuaded to relinquish the weapon as backup officers from Cumberland Two Police and Pennsylvania State Police aided. Also charged is Robert L. Lockman for receiving stolen property related to a July check theft from Elizabeth McIntosh. Bail set at 31,000 pending Adams County Court hearing.

87 Year Old Man Killed In Lime Dust Cloud On Highway

An 87 year old man, Emory A. Sauble, died after his southbound car crossed into the northbound lane on Route 194 near Wellsville. A lime dust cloud caused zero visibility from two trucks spreading lime fertilizer. Sauble was pronounced dead at Hanover Hospital. He leaves a wife, two sons, a daughter, a sister, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements set for New Oxford.

Berwager Home Damaged By Fire Near East Berlin

A fire damaged the Berwager residence off Kuhn Fording Road west of East Berlin, causing about 33500 in losses. The fire started in front of a fireplace and was contained to one room while smoke spread throughout the house. No occupants were home. the fire marshal will investigate. Hampton firemen assisted at the scene. Earlier, East Berlin Fire Co. helped remove a car after a rollover on W King Street involving April Hobbs.

Veterans Day Closings Friday Observed statewide offices close Friday

State offices will be closed on Friday in observance of Veterans Day except for the Adams County Courthouse courtroom where canvass of Tuesday's election, the judge's office, and the county election board remain open. Gettysburg Fire Dept holds officer nominations and fund drive results

Car Rolls Over injures Driver Unharmed in Gettysburg Area

Michael Eliz of Gettysburg escaped injury when his 1976 Volkswagen Beetle veered off Route 116 two miles east of Bonneauville after he fell asleep at 2 to 3 a.m. The car rolled onto its roof after striking a small embankment. Eliz was treated and released at Hanover Hospital. vehicle demolished.
