Scout Leaders Earn Award of Merit at Black Walnut Dinner
The 42nd Black Walnut Scout District Recognition Dinner at Bonneauville fire hall honored Littlestown Cub Scout leader R Guy Lain and East Berlin Scoutmaster E Jack Miller with the Award of Merit for long term leadership. Lain helped Cub Scouting flourish in Littlestown over a decade reaching nearly 1000 boys, while Miller led troops on biking and hiking trips and started the first East Berlin pack in Bee See District in 1976. Also recognized were six Scouts and Cub Pack 79 earned the Dr W B Tilberg Award for community service, presented to Cub Pack 79 and Cubmaster Robert Gilbert for sponsorship by St James Lutheran Church Gettysburg.

New York Couple Injured in Route 15 Crash with Tractor-Trailer
A 1967 Ford driven by Sidney Thaine and his wife Ospiriy Thaine was severely damaged when it backed into a southbound 1973 International Truck Tractor and trailer on US Route 15 near the Hunterstown interchange. Both were treated at Warner Hospital and released. Police noted Thaine missed the Route 394 exit and backed up.

College Senior Hurt When Auto Strikes His Bicycle
John D. Streichion a senior at Gettysburg College from New Providence New Jersey is listed in serious condition at York Hospital after his bicycle was struck by Gracie Anne Sanders 27 of Gettysburg. The crash occurred on Mummasburg Road near the Peace Light Memorial west of Gettysburg at 2 30 pm Thursday. Strachan was treated at Warner Hospital then transferred to York. Sanders was treated for shock at Warner Hospital. Cumberland Township police cited Stachan for failing to stop at Buford Avenue then entering the intersection. He was airborne about 167 feet and landed in the northbound lane. Strachan’s bicycle was demolished and Sanders’ 1964 Ford sedan modestly damaged. Alpha Chi Rho members helped identify the victim. Address listed 75 Rose Ave New Providence NJ.

North Middleton Township police seek a white male, 25 to 29, about 5 foot 10, 170 pounds, with long black hair and full beard, wearing a black brim hat and dark clothing. A grey 1970 71 Plymouth Duster with dull paint and white lettered rear is sought as the getaway vehicle. The victim, Karen Ann Schmalz, 14, from Dillsburg, vanished Oct 15 and was found Oct 28 in North Middleton Township.

State police seek migrant worker Andrew Legher 21 of Orlando Florida in a $600 account forgery at Arendtsville National Bank.
