Fairfield couple escape serious injuries in crash
A Fairfield area couple, David A. Sanders 68 and his wife Jean 63, narrowly escaped serious injury after their Pontiac collided with a large tractor trailer and hit a pole on Rt 30 at Kerr's Ridge Road. They were freed after about 30 minutes and taken to Warner Hospital. Mrs. Sanders was admitted in satisfactory condition, while Mr. Sanders was treated and released. Driver Carl Tiurion of Vermilton, Ohio, was unhurt. Police investigated the southern move from Herr's Ridge Road onto Rt 30 preceding the crash.

Warner Hospital Auxiliary plans the 12th annual Hospital Ball for Saturday December 2 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Sheraton Gettysburg. Co chairs Debbie Raffensperger and Ann Harvey say the event should be the biggest yet with tickets at 25 dollars per couple including a buffer, dancing to the White Brothers Band, a coffee buffer and several door prizes donated by local florists and businesses. Proceeds fund hospital equipment and care improvements, following last year’s 658 dollar profit used to renovate the Coronary Care Unit. Tickets remain available from committee members or at the Hitching Post in Bije or Chambersburg.

An overheated oil stove caused about 500 dollars in wall damage at Thomas and Kathy Rinehart’s home on Russell Tavern Road southwest of Biglerville. Firemen from Biglerville and Arendtsville confined the blaze to the wall behind the stove. a six year old alerted her sleeping parents. The fire, driven by a hot stove pipe, followed a prior incident weeks earlier involving a bees nest ignited by the same pipe. Fire crews remained about an hour on scene.
