Biesecker Doubts County Can Use Old Courthouse as Museum

County Commissioner Harry F. Biesecker on WGET's Community program doubts the county could legally run the present courthouse as a museum if a new courthouse is built on county land. He hopes a group or the National Park Service might buy it. He notes the county currently pays no property tax on county land. Concerns arise over parking and the Topper building purchase.

Straban Two Supervisors Table Budget and Pending Ordinances

Straban Two supervisors allocated 1500 to public safety and 4167 of 5667 to capital expenditures. They tabled mobile home park and campground ordinance pending District Attorney Spi cer guidance. Holding tanks ordinance draft designates Straban Two Municipal Authority for inspections. They approved initial Gettysburg Area Council of Governments payment and noted Rocky Grove School Rd resurfacing. General Fund bills total 82.13 and Highway Aid 928.76.

Adams County Public Library Extends Hours Weekdays

The Adams County Public Library will open at 9 am and operate 9 am to 8 30 pm Monday through Thursday and 9 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday year round. Increase funded by budget revisions to add a staff member with committees guiding the new schedule.

Seek Operator Of Smoking Car On Route 15

State police seek the operator of a late model Volks wagen bus loaded with clothes and camping gear abandoned after a mechanical malfunction on US Route 15 south of York Springs. Firemen reported smoke from the engine area while Harrisburg area owner identified. witnesses included National Park Superintendent Jerry Scho ber and maintenance chief Richard Igo.

College Trustees Gather On Campus

Get ttysburg College trustees met on campus for a two day gathering. Committee meetings were held this afternoon and the board planned a dinner in the college dining hall on W Lincoln Ave. A full board session was scheduled for Friday.

Two Prison Wardens Slain in Philadelphia Disturbance

Holmesburg City Prison in Philadelphia reports Warden Patrick Curran and Deputy Warden Robert F. Fromhold stabbed to death during a prison disturbance. A guard was seriously injured and hospitalised. Cause and inmate involvement are under investigation.

CWRT Views NPS Work At Farm House

Gettysburg Civil War Round Table observed National Park Service work at the McClean House near the Mummasburg Road. Rain canceled a planned ceremony at the 45th New York Infantry Regiment site. NPS specialist Robert Voorhees explained the plan to preserve rather than fully restore now, with later restoration possible at low cost. The original house predates 1230 and began as a log building with a later brick section showing signs of age.

Alumni Festivities At Gettysburg College Weekend

About 500 alumni are expected back for a three day Alumni Commencement Weekend at Gettysburg College with golf, parades, and lectures. Notable events include the Alumni Golf Tournament at Gettysburg Country Club, an alumni dinner, a major address by Dr Arnold Hanson, a class parade, an alumni collation, and a lake dedication tied to the Class of 1926. The weekend runs Friday through Sunday with programs for alumni on all three days.

Adams College Student Daniel Roth Returns from Asia Mission

Daniel Roth of Orrville returns from a nine year service with Mennonite Central Committee and CARE in Korea and Southeast Asia. He visited his parents after witnessing Pakistan’s 1971 secession turmoil and expresses disbelief at Watergate. Roth, a 1954 Gettysburgh High School graduate, worked in Egypt and Cairo on school lunch programs before CARE's departure in 1967.

Taneytown Meat Market Founder F. E. Shaum Dies at 77

Francis Eugene Shaum 77 of Taneytown died at Carroll County General Hospital after a long illness. A WWI veteran awarded by France, he ran a Taneytown meat market 40 years after a produce route. Survived by two wives, four children including Rev. Dr. David W. Shaum, and several local civic group members.

Two Auto Accidents Reported In Local Area

State police report two traffic incidents with no injuries. David Topper, 17, lost control on Route 116 near Crazy Horse Camp Grounds, hitting guard rails and causing eight hundred dollar damage to a 1971 Ford. Robert Kiel, 42, on the Old Lincoln highway in Cashtown struck a United Telephone pole, injuring a 1949 Chevrolet with minor damage.

Muzzy Named Director of Hanover York Adams Clinic

Robert J. Muzzy of Harrisburg has been named director of the Tanover clinic in the York Adams Mental Health program. He has served as acting director since May 1 and joined the Hanover agency March 1 91. He succeeds Dr. Allen Byrnes who resigned earlier this year. Muzzy, born April 8 1928 in Dunkirk NY, is a Navy veteran and holds a BA from Northeastern and an MSW from Boston College. He has held multiple executive and director-level posts in public health and social services across New England and Pennsylvania.

GHS Athletes Honored At Assembly In Gettysburg

Gettysburg High School recognized athletes at its annual awards assembly. Assistant principal Patrick McDermitt presided as master of ceremonies. Storm Causes Power Failure in New Chester Area

Thunderstorms Wednesday evening knocked down trees and cut power lines in the New Chester Hampton area. Firemen and DOT crews repaired downed wires on Hampton Road and township roads while Metropolitan Edison restored service. Route 116 near Charnita saw a limb fall on wires. no other areas were affected.
