Theft of 900 from Exxon station prompts bag find

A motorist found three bank bags along Emmitsburg Road near Marsh Creek Heights. The bags, later turned in at Adams County National Bank Lincoln Square, contained some checks and were believed to hold about $900 in receipts from Mackley’s Exxon at 243 Steinwehr Ave. in Gettysburg.

Donations Voted by St James LCW for Lutheran Groups

The St James Lutheran Church women voted donations from the Katie Monck Fund: 75 dollars to the Lutheran Literature Society for China and 80 dollars to the Lutheran Voice via the Department of Radio TV and Films with Taiwan Lutheran Church support. A Tuesday executive board meeting chaired by Mrs Kenneth Unger also planned LCW activities for the Central Pennsylvania Synodical LCW convention at Gettysburg College June 15 and 16.

Adams Countians to travel abroad under youth exchange

A farewell event at Gettysburg National Bank honored three Adams County residents set to study and work abroad this summer through the International Farm Youth Exchange and related programs. Judy Dennis will teach in Costa Rica for 14 months as a 4H Youth Development delegate. Sheila Lott joins a Teen Caravan to Finland for two months learning local customs. James Leer heads to the Netherlands for two months as part of a Young Adult caravan program.

Illegal delegation alleged in Adams County vo tech dispute

Arendtsville Lions Club organized with new officers

The Arendtsville Lions Club held its first election led by District 140 Governor E G McPherson. George Fissel elected first president with 32 members. Clyde Sell and Clifford Hartzell named vice presidents and Richard Price third VP. Officers included Harvey Dickert secretary and George Scarpele treasurer. A Charter and Ladies Night is set for June 21 at the Arendtsville firehall. Regular dues are 15 dollars covering six dinners. meetings scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesdays. A family picnic is planned for August and regular meetings resume September 11.

Thieves Drill Safe After Midnight Burglary at Stonehedge

Area police seek clues after burglars drilled through a floor safe at the Stonehedge Restaurant on Route 140 near Littlestown Road stealing 697 in Memorial Day receipts. Cumberland Supervisors Approve Six Month Budget 1973

The Cumberland Twp board approved a six month budget totaling 10 294 in revenue sharing funds for operating maintenance and capital needs for early 1973. Of this 4 155 goes to operating and maintenance with 2 000 for recreation and 2 000 to be issued in July. 1 800 is for public safety for Gettysburg Fire Department and 955 for road maintenance. Capital items total 6 139 including a tractor and mower 5 749 and welding equipment 390.

Legal challenge to National Battlefield Tower construction

The Commonwealth Justice Department seeks a temporary injunction from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to halt further work on the 307 ft National Battlefield Tower beside Evergreen Cemetery. Gettysburg College Holds 11th Commencement Sunday

Gettysburg College will hold its 11th commencement Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Old Quadrangle with 452 seniors receiving BA or BS degrees. New York State Senator Carol K. Bellamy will give the commencement address. Six honorary doctorates will be awarded.
