Gettysburg school board and President Chester G. Schultz weigh possible revisions to a proposed 19.6 million dollar budget ahead of a June 18 final adoption. The plan includes a 1.8 million hike in spending, a seven mill property tax increase, and a 10 percent occupational assessment rise, plus a 1.6 million capital reserve.
Lincoln Square Park in Get tysburg moves toward an old style town center. Borough plans call for brick sidewalks granite parking and diagonal spaces with brick crosswalks and landscaped center circle. Phase 1 targets the southwest quadrant with trees flowers and benches.
Littlestown’s finance committee recommended a tentative 1990-91 budget of 9.33 million dollars, a 17 percent rise. To cover a shortfall of 865,496, the school board voted 5-3 to raise real estate taxes by 36 mills, with about 210 dollars more per homeowners this year. The plan also raises occupation tax by 4 percent. State funding shortfalls and staff additions drive the levy, prompting talk of a class-action suit against the state and urging residents to contact lawmakers.
Wal-Mart Inc has filed to raze two historic Straban Township buildings and demolish structures on a 17 acre site along U S Route 30 east of Gettysburg. The plan includes a new store, with HARB review before final township approval, and could trigger demolition of a farm house hospital, a 19th century barn, Hi Way Manor Motel and multiple mobile homes.
