Gettysburg Memorial Day Parade Planned for May 31

A large Gettysburg Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for May 31 at 2 p.m. Parade chairman Dr. Joseph Riley highlights include Air Force Brig. Gen. Stanton Musser as speaker, Civil War era music, and numerous military units, veterans groups, bands, and about 500 school children. If rain, services move to Gettysburg Junior High School auditorium.

High School Team Faces Shippensburg In Track Trials

An Adams County high school entourage of 10 competes in Friday prelims of District 3 track and field at Shippensburg State College. Storm Falklands reference is noted as a separate item on page 3 detailing British forces’ Falklands action.

Weekend Rain Outlook With Temperatures Then Warm

A wet weekend with a 70 percent rain chance on Saturday and again Saturday night. Highs near 60 to 65 and lows in the mid 50s. Sunday also holds a 70 percent rain chance with similar highs. Showers likely Monday and showers or partly cloudy skies Tuesday and Wednesday with lows upper 40s to 50s and highs mid 60s to low 70s.

Sullivan sentenced to probation for tampering with public records

Daniel L. Sullivan was resentenced to two years probation and a $1,000 fine after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reduced an earlier jail term for removing a sheriff sale notice. Judge John A. Cherry cited disrespect for authority and noted Sullivan's background as a police officer. Sullivan plans to appeal the new sentence.

Fairfield approves inflation driven budget with teacher talks

Fairfield Area School Board tentatively approves a 2,329,344 budget reflecting inflation and unsettled teacher contracts. The plan projects a 61 mill tax rate and a nine mill increase from 1981 82 with 1 426 817 local revenue and 829 327 state share.

Gifted program to base plans on district curriculum

Gettysburg elementary teachers prepared for a new gifted student program next fall. The district will shift from a pull-out LIU based system to a classroom integrated approach tied to core subjects. Transition year 1982-83 preserves pull-out for now with a goal of in-class support and collaboration between teachers and a gifted specialist.

Kuralt to Cover Gettysburg Memorial Day Exercises

CBS News correspondent Charles Kuralt is expected in Gettysburg to cover Memorial Day ceremonies. Associate producer Cathy Lewis said Friday that Kuralt will produce an essay from the Gettysburg National Cemetery as the first piece in the revival of The Road series.
