Keefer, New Oxford Educator, Dies at 80
Clarence P. Keefer, 80, of 904 Lincolnway West New Oxford, longtime Adams County schools figure and community leader, died Monday at Hanover Hospital after two weeks of hospitalization. A former Adams County superintendent, he earned the Silver Beaver for Boy Scouts service, led Troop 85 for 20 years, and held many local posts including president of the Friends of the Library, Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce. He served in education from 1916 to 1962 in various roles, ending as supervising principal and administrator in Adams County. Continued on Page 5.

Victor Gouker Seriously Hurt in Speed Shop Fire
Victor Gouker, 47, of McSherrystown, in serious condition at York Hospital after a blaze at his speed shop on Main Street. He suffered head and face injuries. another man, Robert L. Smith, 21, was killed in a similar accident at the shop on August 7, 1970. The incident occurred Monday evening at 6:30. transport had Gouker moved to Hanover Hospital before transfer back to York Hospital.
